After leaving Melanie with the phone, Ofelia goes straight to her room to pray and ask God to give Mel the sense of direction because it’s going to be tough on her………. she sits and hopes when Jessy enters and startles her
“You haven’t told me what your last statement meant”
“Which one Jessica…… I don’t remember”
“It was about you doubting whether I would be fighting for their reunion after knowing what Tobi did…..or something like that”
“Sit…..sit let me tell you” Jessy sits down with her sister
“Remember Mel’s story, how Mira came into existence”
“Yes….I also know that’s the reason why she and Ron couldn’t get married…. though I would rather say Ron was only some cowards”
“Yes…..that man who raped Mel that time is non but Tobi her own husband” Jessy stands up and walks over to the door trying to see if the environment is safe for this discussion and comes back
“Ofelia… you realise the gravity of what you just said right”
“I know….it was so hard for me to believe too”
“No Tobi is not the bad guy, he can’t be it should be Ronald the bad one”
“Listen….I understand how you feel and believe me, I have talked to him and believe me, I have not not change how I feel about him now that I know how things happened”
“What happened…. tell me what happened”
“Tobi was drugged and he couldn’t control himself”
“What do you mean drugged?…. as in what, how Viagra?”
“Jeezzz calm down and slowly please”
“How can I….I want to hear all of it”
“I don’t know if it’s Viagra or what…..but that’s what happened, Mel was kidnapped like we already know, he says they kept her in a room where they also took him after sometime”
“This is too much and too serious…. does he know who the people who did this were”
“They were his best friends that time…. they were all working for him but that was the end of their friendship”
“That means he never really loved our daughter after all”
“He did….he did and he swore he does and I believe him”
“But how did Mel find out about this”
“The boys were back, they came back this time threatening to tell Mel the truth and he got scared, he didn’t want anyone else to be the one to break the news to her so he did…..he was not able to tell her what really happened because she fainted shortly after”
“Oh my my!…. what does he plan on doing to those guys….he has not really said anything concerning that but what he wants now is only to get back his wife”
“But Mel doesn’t want to see him”
“I know…. but I recorded our conversation and I left the phone with her”
“You did good…..you did good, Tobi is a nice man and thanks to him we have been so happy for the last five months…..and thank you my sister for the forgiveness, believe me I wouldn’t have done the same thing if I was in your shoes, after all that we your family did to you”
“It’s OK…. perhaps I also needed you in my life, you and I were very close when we were growing up and I’m sure I wouldn’t have been this strong in this new developed had it been you were not in my life…..so I’m equally thankful” they give each other sisterly hug……………….
Melanie opens the audio on the phone and she’s about to press the play button but she gets scared, she tries but she just can’t bring herself to do it…..she throws the phone away and walks out of the room only to stop at the door and come back, she sits and this time she builds courage and plays it….she closes her eyes as she hears his voice, the voice she has missed so much in these two days, she sits still and listens carefully to the audio…….it took a while like her mother said but what Tobi said in the audio couldn’t stop her tears from flowing and by the time the audio was over, she realises she’s seated on the flow covered in tears
“I believe you my love…..I believe you but this is so shocking to me, my God! how can people be this weaked” she struggles to stand, all of a sudden she touches her tummy and smiles amid tears
“This wave hit us just when we were going to receive the best news ever…..the first time a doctor was going to congratulate us for going to be a parent again but guess what….I don’t know what is going to become of us, I don’t know if we are going to go back to how it used to be but all I know is, you’re the father of my children and the love of my life” she slowly and weakly walks over to the window
“I’m even tired of crying…. I’m so tired of staying locked up….” she looks longingly at her still unpacked bag, the one Jane had dropped earlier…… she walks over and opens it, she’s looking for what to wear, she has to see her husband but she has no phone to call him
“What do I do…..how do I get in touch with you” she remembers her mother’s phone and picks it up
“I hope there is credit here” she checks and indeed it’s there………….
Tobi has just gotten home from his meeting with Ofelia, he’s not feeling like doing anything much less going to the office, he just wants to go in and lock himself up and hope for Mel’s forgiveness….. he gets out of the car and heads inside… he gets to the living room and meets the shock of his life
“What the hell are you doing here Ronald…. and how did you find this place”
“Hey Tobi buddy……is this the best way to welcome your OB who also wants to become your friends?”
“I’m not looking for one so you can, take your offer somewhere”
“But I don’t want anyone Else, I want you and you know what that means…… you’re a very famous young investor….. I’m thinking of venturing into the same business since I’m now back in the country”
“Look here…..I have no idea what your game is or what you’re trying to achieve with all this but let me warn you, I’m not interested in any so excuse me……..the same way you came into this house is the same way you should leave” he tries to go his way but Ron quickly gets up and stands in his way
“I’m not done with you”
“Excuse me”
“You don’t belong here Tobias Akankwasa……. you don’t have the right to be moving free and do whatever you want whenever you want…..you’re nothing but a dirty rag who hides behind his angelic face”
“I don’t have your time and I don’t want to play your type of game so get moving”
“No….you can’t send me out of here…. five years ago, you destroyed the beautiful relationship I had established with Melanie….. you came in like hurricane and destroyed everything we worked so hard to build and here you’re still free”
“If you were someone in Mel’s life, maybe a brother or a relative, I would bother explaining myself to you but since you’re nothing but a stupid coward ex…..I have no need to explain anything to you”
“You bastard, if you think you can still deceive Melanie into forgiving you you’re nothing but just a joker I’m not going to let her do that…….I’m going to make sure she presses charges against you and when that happens, you will be arrested and I will make sure the whole world you have been deceiving gets to know who you really are, your name will be soiled with your reputation ruined, you will spend the rest of your life in prison and guess what the most interesting part is” he moves closer to his face this time
“Melanie will see me as her hero….saviour, she will realise what she felt for you is nothing but confusion….. she will forgive me for my little mistake and we shall be together forever like it was supposed to be from the beginning you bastard rapist” Tobi wants to say something but his phone starts to vibrate from his Jean pocket….. he fidgets with it and gets it out, on looking at the screen it’s Ofelia….. he wonders if everything is OK with Mel
“Mother…..is everything Alright”
“Hello……it’s…… it’s me, please where are you, I have to talk to you” Tobi wants to scream in excitement but on realising he’s with some unwanted creature he controls himself the best way he could
“I’m at home…..I will be here for the rest if today, can you come over here”
“OK….. I’m coming”
“Can I come pick you up” he wants to call her his love but he controls himself
“No….I can pick a cab so stay”….. he drops the call and looks at Ron
“Sometimes I think you talk too much but you do so little….. go a head and do whatever you want…… I’m not so afraid of you……I don’t even know why you came here in the first place
” I came to warn you”
“You wasted your time…..leave my house” this time he walks away without Ron stopping him…..he stands and watches until when Tobi disappeared and walks out too……….
Melanie who is dressed in one of her latest dresses she had shopped for is looking so fresh…..she looks too beautiful and healthy for a woman who has been crying lately…..she steps into the living room and her two mothers gave themselves a knowing look
“Are you going out….”Ofelia asks
” Yes…. I will be back, where is Mira”
“She must be playing somewhere”
“Here is the phone” she hands her mother the phone
“Don’t you need it anymore”
“I have no use for it again….. see you…. she walks out
“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” Jessy asks and Ofelia can only look at her………..
Since his wife is coming, he has made an effort to clean all the mess in the room……collecting all that is scattered on the floor… He’s feeling anxious and not because of the unpleasant visit from Ron but because he has no idea what Mel is coming for…..he sits down to think
“Does this mean she has listened to the story from her mother and has accepted to talk to me so she can hear it all……..what if she’s coming here to just to end it once and for all…… no no no….stop being negative” he’s struggling with all his thoughts and didn’t hear someone walk in…..suddenly he feels her presence, she must be here….he looks up and indeed, his favourite person is standing by the door holding the knob…..he stands up, he wants to run and embrace her but he controls himself
“Melanie…..” he calls her name and the next thing, Mel runs and embraces him…..for a while he couldn’t come to terms with this, but eventually does, he hugs her back and they stay like that for a while and separate……
“Melanie…….”
“Yes Tobi….. even if it means death I, can’t give up on your love so like an idoit I’m here” she says looking into his eyes and without thinking twice he claims her lips and gives her a kiss of life………
