.Amy was shocked to hear that Lair’s so called friend who was supposed to be her colleague was Blake.How did that happen?The question tugging on her mind right now, was how Lair became acquainted with Blake. This was totally unexpected.”How did you become acquainted with Blake?” Amy asked inquisitively.Lair looked from Amy to Jade, who was equally suprised by the mention of Blake’s name. He would consider Amy’s reactions normal, but why Jade? He never knew they were both acquainted with Blake.But on a second thought, Amy’s reaction was more than that of a mere colleague. There was something more to this.”What’s going on? Why do you guys look so suprised?” He asked refusing to answer Amy’s questions as he changed glances between them.”That’s not a reponse to my question” Amy said in annoyance when Lair avoided her question.”What do you guys know that I don’t?” He asked again, when it seemed like their brains were yet to register his initial questions. “And how did you know him?” He turned to ask Jade.”Nothing!””I don’t know him”They both answered at same time. Lair narrowed his eyes as he looked at them doubtfully. He had noticed that both their response were synced since they picked up Jade. He wasn’t going to buy the ‘nothing’ excuse.He shot them a questioning look, daring them to spill whatever they were hiding.”I said it’s nothing” Amy said dismissively before giving Jade a look that says ‘Don’t say a word’. She knew Lair would tease her senseless till she was greatly embarrassed, if he knew she was chasing after a man. She was scared he might jinx the whole night for her.Lair signed in resignation, when it looked like he wouldn’t get anything out of them. He didn’t push it further, he was sure whatever they were hiding would come to light soon. He is a patient man.”Come on let’s go” Lair said as he stepped out of the car. Amy couldn’t help but scowl at his back. Lair had refused to answer her question. But that was Lair’s way of doing things.Jade and Amy stepped out of the car too, and closely followed Lair to the hall for the party.Jade noticed how nervous Amy was. She kept taking deep breaths to calm herself, which made Jade almost chuckle. She couldn’t believe the tough and smart Amy Walker was acting like an high schooler who had a crush on the popular jock boy in school. It reminded her of herself, when she had a crush on Cale back in high school before they accidentally met again and started dating in college.”You’ll be fine. You look stunning enough to make any guy drop dead” Jade said exaggeratedly which made Amy stare at her with a mock glare as she tried to suppress a smile tugging on the side of her lips.”It’s so comforting to see that you’re making fun of my situation” Amy said sarcastically.”I’m not. Believe me, nobody would see you right now and ignore you, or not wish you were their’s” Jade said with a smile.”What if he does?” Amy asked nervously.”What if he ignores you?” Jade asked, while Amy nodded.”He wouldn’t dare” Amy said with a serious face.”But if he does, that only means he doesn’t deserve you. So you’ll just have to stop chasing him…or liking him” Jade said.”Worst comes to worst, he might see you and act like a snub. But that will only show you what kind of a guy he is” Jade said thoughtfully. The last thing she wanted for Amy was a pretentious Cale in her life too.”But…” Amy’s was interrupted by Jade.”Amy you’ll be fine and everything will be fine. You’ll surely get him okay” She said comfortingly.”Okay” Amy replied as they walked into the hall.”Rich people do know how to throw a party. So much for a ‘small get together'” Lair commented when they walked into the party hall.”Like you all aren’t rich” Jade sneered.The Walker family was not an ordinary family. They were also known in the elite circle of City. They had been involved in the Legal department of the country for generations. Amy and Lair were the only children of their parents who were not interested in the family’s heritage job.Amy was happy when Lair decided to venture into the medical field, and that had encouraged her in pursuing her I.T career. That and a lot of support from Lair too.”It’s certain I can’t throw a party as big as this” The walker family was not in any in comparison to the Beau’s. Though they were involved in different sectors, but the walker’s were in no place a match for the Beau’s.Amy paid no attention to Lair’s and Jade’s banter as her eyes kept scanning the room full of people in search of Blake.Her heart’s rhythm changed automatically when she finally spotted him smiling in her direction.Amy cheeks flushed at the sight of Blake. He was gorgeously dressed in his white retro handmade suit that made him look extremely handsome. She had always known he had a thing for white, but seeing him right now made her heart flutter like she was seeing him for the first time.Her heart was wildly racing as he flashed a smile in her direction. Everything in her told her he was smiling at her, and this made her knees go weak.She halt on her steps which she didn’t know she had taken subconsciously, when she saw Blake wave in her direction, but it wasn’t at her….it was Lair.He was waving at Lair!!She slowly turned to Lair with a scowl. Why was he stealing her spot light? She had known he’d jinx the night for her. She recomposed herself and looked at his direction again. Maybe, just maybe he didn’t see her, she said to herself.She frowned slightly when she noticed he was no longer standing there.Jade didn’t miss out on what was happening in front of her. She closely observed Amy’s change in countenance, and she was sure Amy was somewhat feeling sad.”I don’t think he saw you. He must had had his eyes on Lair, since he had invited him specially” She said thoughtfully making Amy sigh.Maybe Jade was right. She looked different tonight after all, so different that she wouldn’t have been able to recognize herself if she hadn’t personally made herself look pretty.”I guess you’re right” She said as a small smile spread across her face.”Let’s go say hi then” Amy suggested with impatiently. She could no longer wait to show off all this beauty to Blake. He’d definitely be enthralled by her .~~~~~~”I can’t believe you didn’t invite me for our little man’s birthday, that’s bad man.” Mike complained to Jake with a mock glare. He couldn’t believe Jake would actually not invite him for Blake’s party. And to make matters worse, he had found out about it from Phil.Phil who was chasing women around the country knew about it, but he didn’t??”Why should I have done that?” Jake asked nonchalantly as he raised his glass to his lips.”What do you mean by that? What is he trying to say?” Mike asked as he turned to Rick like he was reporting back to him.”I guess he didn’t want to invite you, but I was invited” Rick said with a mock smile. Mike was dumbfounded by Rick’s response. He frowned at him for finding the situation amusing. He was hurt for being sidelined. Why couldn’t they see that?”So why wasn’t I invited?” Mike asked with a frown, staring back at Jake with vexed eyes.”Isn’t it obvious he didn’t invite you because you won’t stop teasing his brother?””And after all we knew you would always find your way here” Daniel replied making Mike scoff in disbelief. He didn’t see this coming. He’d never thought that a day would come when his friends would do something like this to him. Like go to a party with out him or try avoiding him.Unbelievable!!He gave them a displeased look before settling his gaze back on Jake. “You are just so evil and you’re doing a good job by making them your minions” He said as Jake smirked at him.”So where’s the birthday boy?” Mike asked looking around. He was sure he had seen Blake with Jake and the others when he walked in.Jake turned around to look for Blake who has suddenly scampered away at the sight of Mike.It wasn’t unusual for Blake to hide away from Mike. He always did that when Mike came around.Blake could never handle Mike’s teaseful attitude. He never gets tired of making a jest of him. If it hadn’t been the fact that he was his brother’s friend, he might have returned the favour. In one word, Mike was annoying. Though he respected Mike as a brother, but that didn’t change the fact that he was annoying.Blake was sure the beautiful lady standing by Lair looked familiar. He had a hunch that he knew her, but he couldn’t remember how or where. He thought she looked beautiful…very beautiful. She some what looked like the guest he was expecting. He wondered why she hadn’t showed up yet.Maybe she had gone for the party she had mentioned earlier. He really wanted to thank her for her gift. He’d never thought she took notice of what he liked or used.Her gift had actually made him happy.He was about heading over to Lair when Jake signalled him over, it was time to cut the cake. Blake made a mental note to talk to Lair before the party was over.Lair noticed Amy’s anxiousness. He was certain she was unusually conscious of her appearance tonight. Although she had a motto of never getting caught unfresh, she had never acted this differently.She always loved to look her best at all times and wanted same from those around her, so much that she’d often scolded Jade to always pay extreme care to her appearance.Though she always paid attention to her look’s, but tonight was a bit unusual.It was more like she was anxiously waiting on someone. It was like the case of a bride waiting on her groom.Something was admist, and he was sure of it.”What’s wrong with her?” Lair asked Jade curiously when he observed how unusually quiet Amy was. Her eyes kept wandering around the crowd, like she was desperately in search of someone. He wondered why she was suddenly been taciturn, when she was the one in a haste to get here.”Do you think she’s waiting for someone?” He asked, while Jade shrugged and shook her head casually.She had promised Amy not to mention a word about Blake to him. Lair eyed her in disdain. He knew she had an idea about all this, and it was obvious she didn’t want to tell.”I know you have an inkling about what’s this is about, so are you going to tell me or not?” He asked with a threatening stare.”Are you picking sides now?” He asked raising a brow at her when she remained mute, making Jade smile meaningfully at him.She definitely wasn’t picking sides, but she was respecting her friend’s wish.Lair took a close look at her and sighed defeatedly. He knew he shouldn’t this push further, because he was certain Jade will forever be tightlipped about it.”You should really learn from Amy you know” He said with a resignated sign, before taking off the band in her hair. Jade had pulled her hair up in a pony tail, and Lair didn’t think it looked good on her. He had thought about this on their way here but it somehow skipped his mind, thanks for Amy being in a hurry to leave. He removed the band, allowing Jade’s jet black hair fell freely on her shoulders.Lair looked at her again and shot her a pleased smile. Her freely flowing her made her look more beautiful. He used his fingers to tuck a few stray strands behind her ears.”Thank you” Jade said with a sweet smile. She was used to Lair being this sweet to her. Lair and Amy had always paid extra attention to her looks. She couldn’t put on some weight without being scolded by both siblings.”Don’t thank me, go and ask Amy to teach you on how to look like a real lady” He said in a jocular manner.”Are you saying I’m not a lady?” Jade asked with a mock glare.”I didn’t say that, you did. But do you really think you look like one. When was the last time you had your facials done?” He asked tilting his head towards her.”Well…” Jade stuttered.”Yea, I know you can’t remember. Just say…’more like never’. I wonder why you still look this pretty” He said turning his face from her to look at Amy who was looking intently at the person who was about stepping on the podium….It was her boss..Jake Beau.”Finally you know I’m pretty” Jade replied with a small smile.”Well not enough to get you a good man yet. My grandmother still looks better” He teased, which made Jade smack him on his arm.”You’re so mean” Jade said trying to walk away from him, as Lair laughed at her.Jade’s almost lost her footing and her heart began to race like she had ran a marathon when she heard that familiar deep, rich voice echoing through the room full of people.She slowly lifted her head up and her heart skipped a thousand beats, when she saw him standing with a mic as he gave his wishes to Blake.A myriad of thoughts were running through her mind at the moment. Why was she being unlucky lately? Why does he keep showing up everywhere she goes? Was this some sort of punishment?She almost died on the spot when their eyes met for a split second, and for some reason she thought she felt a cold vibe from them. But why was he here again?”Jade!”Jade jerked out of her thoughts when Amy jabbed her by the side.”What are you thinking about?” Amy asked.”Nothing” Jade lied.”Lets go” Amy said with a smile.”Go where?” Jade asked in confusion, While Amy pointed at Blake who was walking towards them, with Lair walking up to him with a smile.She wouldn’t mind using Lair to get to talk to Blake. She didn’t mind that at all, as far as she got her desired result.”Oh!” Jade exclaimed.”Hold on I have to use the restroom” Jade suddenly said before turning around to head for the ladies room. She slightly turned her head around and she caught a glimpse of Jake staring at her intently. She sighed in relief when she noticed he had stopped on his tracks and he wasn’t coming after her.She had lied to Amy about using the ladies room, when she saw Jake slowly walking in her direction. What does he want now!? She cried in her heart.Why does he keep approaching her?Jake stared at her back as she hurriedly walked away. If she thought she could get away from him tonight, then she must be having the wildest dream of her life.
