She had silently been hoping for Jake to get attracted to her or maybe like her, but she wasn’t really expecting him to suddenly ask her to be his girlfriend. Did he by chance like her too? Her eyes suddenly sparkled at that thought. She couldn’t help but ask him, “Why?” Her eyes were filled so much expectations and anxiety at the same time.
Jake could tell she was having another wave of shock so he took a step closer, this time only a foot away, his eyes were calm as they looked at her. His look was serious like what he was about to say was as serious as life and death.
“Because I love you” He confessed in a gentle and firm tone.
Jade’s heart almost exploded as soon as she heard that. A roller coaster of emotions swept through her. She wasn’t understanding this. Well it was simple and clear, but there was nothing simple about what he had just said. He– he just said he loves her.
He… loves her? Wait not like but love?Jade’s brain was in a mush.
Her heart was bubbling with excitement, racing and doing flipbacks like an Olympic gold gymnasts. The gray matters of her brain had suddenly turned white and she kept gaping and staring at him with wide eyes.
Jake slowly reached for her small hands and covered them in his big ones, his gaze not leaving her for one minute, silently assuring her that he meant what he had just said.
“I know this so out of the blue and it’s probably going to come as a surprise to you, just as much as it was to me. I love you and I want you to be my girlfriend” He paused and continued…
“Believe me I never really planned to fall in love with you or anybody else. But I guess when you meet the prettiest, coolest, funniest and most innocent girl, you can’t help but fall in love with her, even a playboy like me is no exception.” He chuckled lightly. “I swear this wasn’t how I planned to confess my feelings to you. I had this perfect idea of taking you for a walk along the park tomorrow after the party, give you flowers, and then tell you how I feel about you while sitting under some beautiful trees, completely surrounded by nature, but seeing you tonight looking this amazing, I can’t help but tell you exactly how I feel. Who cares about the sequence of things. What I care about is you, I want you Jade Peterson. I want you in my life.
This past month with you has been the best period of my life. You’ve thought me how to live and love, and I want to love no one else but you. So yes I’m saying that I love you and I want you to be mine” He paused again.
“I don’t know exactly what you feel about me, but I’m ready to wait, till you figure things out and maybe fall for me too. But please don’t make me wait too long” He added. It didn’t really matter if Jade didn’t feel anything for him now, he was sure he could make her love him, just as much as he does. All she just has to do now was agree to be his girlfriend, they could start from there.
“So what do you say?” Jake asked anxiously.
“I —I” Jade stuttered. Her thoughts were incoherent. This was surprising and unexpected. She had no clue he was in love with her.
She lowered her eyes to his hands holding hers so firmly, before glancing back at his face.
“Jade please say something” Jake was about to die of anxiety.
“I – don’t know what to say” She replied calmly. She really didn’t know what to say to him. She was too astonished by all this.
“Then say you’ll be my girlfriend.” He prodded. Jade couldn’t help but stare at him.
God! This was too good to be true. Jake was actually in love with her, and it wasn’t just her who had feelings for him.
With a smile spreading across her face she nodded her head and said, “Yes”
“Yes?” Jake asked back just so he could be sure she was saying yes to his proposal, even though he was certain that was what the ‘yes’ meant.
“Yes” Jade said shyly, giving a single nod. He let go of her hand which he has been holding all this while. A happy smile slowly crept on Jake’s face, he placed one hand on his waist while the other combed through his hair as he let go of the breath he has been holding. His head snapped towards her again.
“So yes, you’re going to be my girlfriend right?” He still couldn’t believe it. His actions made Jade giggle lightly, his expression was so innocent and sweet.
“Yes I’ll be your girlfriend” She said firmly making Jake’s smile widen and so did hers.
“And you’re not saying yes because you’re pressured by all this?” He asked uncertainly.
“No” She shook her head shyly.
“So I can tell someone you’re my girlfriend now?”
Jade replied by bobbing her head shyly. This also meant she could tell someone he was her boyfriend too. She squealed in her heart.
She gasped when Jake suddenly swept her off the car, placed her down and pulled her in for a hug. He wrapped his hands tightly around her, his head buried by the crook of her neck as he said, “Thank you Jade”
Jade looked at their intertwined hands and a light blush crept up her face. Jake had his right hand inter-twined with her left hand while his left hand maneuvered the wheel. Her gaze slowly went up to his handsome face which had a happy smile on it and her face reddened even more. She couldn’t believe Jake was now officially her boyfriend. She was still in awe…..it felt like a dream, a really good dream, one she didn’t want to wake up from.
Looking at his perfectly chiseled face and the huge smile plastered on his face she felt butterflies fluttering through her stomach. Her heart burst with joy. She couldn’t wait to tell someone about this. She could hardly wait for Jake to drop her off so she could call the Walker siblings and tell them about this. She was sure Amy would be so shocked to hear Jake had confessed his love for her and she was probably going to scream her lungs out. Her smile broadened when she thought about how Amy had bad mouthed Jake out of concern for her, of course.
Jake couldn’t help but notice Jade’s gaze on him.
“I can pull over so you can get a good view” Jake said with a teasing smile, his gaze was fixed on the road. Jade blinked at him in confusion. She didn’t understand what he meant. Why would he pull over?
Jake took a quick look at her, his hand still holding hers. From the way she was looking at him, he was certain she didn’t understand what he meant.
“I know you want to look at your boyfriend so much, so I want to give you an unlimited opportunity” He said with a mocking laugh, when he noticed Jade’s face color to red.
“Stop it, you’re teasing me” Jade blushed harder as she turned her face away to look outside the window. She was feeling embarrassed. ‘What a tease’
“I’m not, I know you want to ogle, so let me pull over” He teased as he slowed down the car.
He also didn’t know why he had started teasing her in the first place, but seeing her little reactions made him want to do more.
“Don’t stop, keep driving” Jade yelled when she noticed he was slowing down, but she still didn’t dare to look at him. Who knew what he was going to say next.
“Are you sure?” He turned to look at her, and of course she was still blushing and she was trying so hard to feign a frown, making his lips twitch in amusement.
“You don’t have to ogle too much, I know your boyfriend is drop dead gorgeous. How about I give you picture later?” He said with a wink, wriggling his brows playfully at her before returning his gaze back to the road. Jade jaws dropped when she heard him. Why was he teasing her like this?
“You’re so quick to reveal your true self. Maybe I should just break up with you now” She feigned a glare. She knew she wouldn’t dare to do that.
Jake snapped his head towards her in surprise, “You didn’t say that right? Already threatening me with a breakup huh? It’s only been an hour, and you already want to leave me? That’s wicked” He pulled a sad and innocent pout, making Jade scoff.
“Then stop teasing me”
“But I was only trying to make my girlfriend happy, after all, she got herself a handsome guy” He said defensively, acting like his good will wasn’t been appreciated.
“Yeah right” She scoffed making Jake’s lips twitch again. How did she forget that he was such a conceited man? She facepalmed herself inwardly.
If Jake doesn’t kill her, then nothing else would.
What has she gotten herself in to?
Jade wouldn’t lie, she liked the way he keeps himself her boyfriend. It made her heart flutter. She took another quick look at him, and of course he indeed looked delicious. The way some strands of his hair were currently hovering over the side of his face made him look like some underwear model.
Jade chuckled when she remembered all the cute and innocent faces Jake had made a while ago at the drive-in theatre.
“What’s funny?” He asked smilingly even though he didn’t know what was amusing her.
“You know for a guy who looked like he would die if i had said no, you have sure turned bold and shameless. I wonder if you’ll be this bold if I had turned you down”
“You wouldn’t dare. And even if you did I wouldn’t have given up. I would have convinced you till you agreed”
“Really?” Jade asked with interest. “And how were you going to do that?” She cocked a brow at him.
Jake glanced at her, “I would have given you all the reasons why I’m the only guy who’s good enough for you. And told you why all the other guys don’t measure up, and I know you like how handsome I am” He winked at her again.
“And even if you had turned me down again, I still won’t give up. I’d hunt you down and pester you till you finally agreed and became mine, because I only have eyes for you” He proclaimed as he raised Jade’s hand to his lips placing a light kiss on it, making Jade’s heart to swell. Jade badly wanted to throw her hands around him and hug him tightly.
She was never going to say no to him. Him asking her out and telling her he loves her, felt like a miracle.
“I want to take you out on a date” Jake suddenly announced, making Jade turn to look at him.
“Hmm?”
“I want to take you on a date” He repeated when he saw the confused look on Jade’s face. Why was she looking at him like that. Didn’t couples go out on dates when they started dating?
“Hmm…now?” She asked in confusion. She didn’t want to go on her first date looking like this? She was still wearing her work clothes.
What was she going to do?!
