Jade didn’t bother going into Mr Alan’s office after her encounter with Stephanie, she didn’t see the need to. She already had what she needed so there’s was no need going to ask him why he did what she did. So rather she made her way back to the office. She brought out her phone from her pocket and looked at the recorder which was still on. She saved the recording she had made of Mr Alan’s and Stephanie conversation and also of that between her and Stephanie.
Jade wasn’t sure she had wanted to see Mr Alan’s face and observe the disappointed look on it. She didn’t want to hear him apologize to her for agreeing to sabotage her in the way he had done.
Remembering what she had heard by his door, her conscience wanted to see reason with Alan and exonerate him from any of this, but another part of her wanted him to learn a lesson for making her suffer that embarrassment in front of the big bosses. He shouldn’t have done what he did despite the fact that he was in dire need of money. She didn’t think it was right for him to lose his principles like this and commit such a lowly crime.
But on a second thought who was she to judge? Judging him was going to make her an hypocrite, because just 3 months ago she had slept with a random man just to save another man who didn’t love her or respect her. But atleast Mr Alan was wise enough to make such a sacrifice for his daughter. She was aware of his daughter’s predicament. The poor girl has been struggling with a major brain disease for a very long time. But what she didn’t know was how grave it was, because Mr Alan has always made a casual talk of it and had always maintained a happy smile on his face at work.
Jade opened to the recorded message and cut out the part of Mr Alan’s voice. Stephanie should take the fall, after all if she wasn’t a terrible person what was wrong in she loaning or better still giving out the money to help him save his daughter without making him do her dirty work.
Stephanie was evil, and as such she should bear the consequences alone and take the fall for it. Call her bias, or sinister she didn’t care. All she knows was that Stephanie had stepped on her toes for too long. It’s about time she clipped her wings and let her fall from her delusional high place.
This was her choice.
“What did he say?” Simon asked the moment Jade walked into his office. He was sure she had gone to confront Mr Alan about it.
“His flash has been missing for days. He had no idea where it has been in the last few days” Jade lied.
“Really?” Simon was surprised, not because he doubted it, but because he was pleased to know that Alan had no hand in it. But a concerned frown quickly replaced the happy look on his face.
“If the flash has been missing for days, that means we still have no idea who might have done this to you, because anybody could have used it and this is a company with a lot of staffs.” He said as he looked at his wrist watch to check the time. “And the four hours you were given is almost up. So what do we do?” They were practically back to square one. The worried look on his face made Jade feel grateful for having a boss like him. Not everyone would act the way he was, some wouldn’t have trusted her or given her the benefit of the doubt, but here he was believing her to a fault.
“You should listen to this” Jade said, passing her phone to him, playing her conversation with Stephanie. He shot her a quizzical look as he received the phone, but Jade signalled him to listen and he did.
With every second that he listened Jade saw his brow tightened and the look on his face turned grim. He looked like he was about to murder someone.
“That vixen” He cussed with much animosity, surprising Jade as this was the first time she was seeing him in such a mood talk more of cuss. His eyes were dark and cold, as he abruptly stood to his feet.
“Let’s go” He declared ferociously. Jade didn’t need to ask where they were heading to, because she already knew. But she didn’t want Stephanie to simply get scolded by the bosses. She wanted her to suffer the same level of embarrassment she had suffered in the presence of the board of directors.
No one should blame her for being so vengeful, Stephanie has been a bitch in her life for too long. And public embarrassment was the least punishment she deserved.
“Sir” Jade called, her eyes fixed on the back of the angry boss who was about to march out of his office and go report to the president with the evidence at hand.
Simon turned to look at Jade. He looked displeased when he noticed she wasn’t following behind and was still rooted to the same spot.
“You don’t want to save your job anymore?” He asked, not understanding the look on her face.
“I do, but–” Her words trailed.
“But what?” He asked turning to look at her fully, while Jade took a step closer to him.
“Sir I want to save my job, but..” she paused. She didn’t know how to tell her boss that she wanted to put an end to Stephanie….put an end to her stupidity. She hissed audibly.
“Sir you may not know this but Stephanie and I have alot of bad blood between us. This isn’t the first time she has done something like this, and I don’t want her to make a repeat of what she has done” She told him, making Simon to look at her intently. He could tell there was a feud going on between both ladies, but he didn’t know how that came to be, since Stephanie was a manager and Jade was an intern, who hasn’t had the opportunity to work with Stephanie except when they pitched for the same contract. So how had things gotten this bad?
He took note of Jade words saying this wasn’t the first time Stephanie had tried to sabotage her. That brought back the memory of the incident that happened recently, and it rang a bell in his head.
“Was she the reason you almost got fired weeks ago?” He curiously inquired. He had always wondered how Jade had landed herself in trouble then. He had a feeling things weren’t as simple as they seemed.
“Yes” Jade nodded her head affirmatively, while Simon bobbed his head in understanding. Now he understood why things were this way.
It was obvious Stephanie wants to get rid of Jade, who was one of his best staff he’d willingly covet and prevent from leaving his team.
“So what do you want?” He asked her, his look was quite serious and it was obvious he was willing to help her.
“Sir in this fight between me and Stephanie, it’s certain one of us must get rid of the other, and if I don’t want to be the victim. I have to get Stephanie out.” She paused and intensed her gaze.
“I want her out of Xenox” Jade declared ferociously.
.
.
Jade had not expected Simon to offer his help towards getting rid of the unwanted evil in her life. She had thought he might see her as an unforgiving and sinister person but fortunately that wasn’t the case, because soon they were on their way to the conference room to wait for the big bosses to arrive.
Jade and Simon had only arrived at the door to the conference room when Stephanie also appeared, approaching them from the opposite side. She gave Simon an acknowledging nod who also replied with a nod of his own as he tried to hide his distaste for her.
He wasn’t just angry at her for trying to sabotage a colleague, but for also trying to implicate an innocent man with a reputable career at the company. To him vicious women like Stephanie were the ones he hated the most.
He looked at Jade before stepping into the room, leaving them behind.
“I heard your dismissal is going to be a fun show” Stephanie said tauntingly. A mocking smile glistening in her eyes.
Jade heaved a deflated sigh. “Yeah, so I heard. I hope it will be fun enough for you” Jade replied.
“Sure it should be” She said with a sinister and malicious smile. The thoughts of getting Jade out of the company was giving her immense joy.
“I’m glad it will. Just be careful in there. You don’t want to stutter too much or say inappropriate things” Jade said with hidden meaning making Stephanie frown for a minute. She didn’t understand what Jade meant.
‘Why would she stutter in there? Or say inappropriate things. What does she mean by that?’ She thought but she quickly shook those nonsense words out of her mind. Jade was obviously trying to mess with her because she knew she was definitely going to be thrown out of the company. She chuckled out loud.
“Just stop being stupid. You’re done for and this should teach you a lesson” She gloated at her, making Jade hiss. Stupid people were always stupid and could never see the writings on the wall.
“Well I hope we both can learn from it” Jade said before turning to walk into the room. She suddenly remembered something and turned to look at Stephanie’s hand.
“And Stephanie, your nails looks nice” She said with a fiendish smile. Stephanie looked at the hand she was looking at. It was the one with a missing nail. She understood Jade was trying to mock her for walking about with incomplete nails.
She hissed. She didn’t know where or when her press on nails had fallen off. She had been engaged with a lot of stuff both personal and work related to go have a new set, hence why they were still on her finger.
She looked at Jade who was already walking into the conference room.
“She can laugh all she wants, but that doesn’t change the fact that she won’t be disgraced out of this building soon” She sneered in her heart. After the close of work today she’ll definitely re-do her nails before someone else points it out. She sighed before walking into the conference room.
Stephanie planted herself on the seat directly opposite Jade. She had a smug and happy smile on her face as she fixed her gaze on Jade.
Jade locked gaze with Stephanie, her eyes filled with so much anger and hatred for her but she managed to keep a stoic look on her face. She scoffed and looked away from her annoying face, which was irking her out.
‘And why the hell did her nose grow so big? Tch, so annoying’
Soon people started to troop into the room for the emergency meeting which has impromptly called by the president. And in no time it was filled with the same faces who had been there this morning to watch Jade’s most embarrassing moment, and even more departmental heads as well as the disciplinary committe of the company. It was a full house. Extra seats had to be brought in and even that was not enough cause some other staffs had to stand behind the round table.
Jade turned to look at Simon in surprise. She wondered what he might have said or done to make the president pull such a full house for a meeting just because of her. His nice gesture made her heart swell with so much happiness.
“This had better be good” The president said as he strolled into the office in long strides. He lolled himself on the seat at the head of the table and looked at Jade and her boss, Simon.
Stephanie observing the way the president was looking at Jade, she couldn’t help but smile happily.
‘The bitch is done for’ She cheered in her head.
“Ms Peterson, I heard you have something to reveal to us. Please get to it” He said in a curt tone.
Simon gave her an approving nod as he nudged her to stand up. Jade felt a quick wave of anxiety sweep through her as she stood to her feet. Her eyes scanned through the room full of people. Some faces were familiar while some were not. Her eyes settled on Mr Alan who was also present but he ashamedly looked away from her face. She composed herself and looked ahead to the two heads of the company.
“Good afternoon, My name is Jade Peterson” She introduced herself.
“Earlier this morning an unfortunate incident happened in this very room and I could have been accused for misconduct or probably sacked for unprofessionalism, but I was graciously given sometime to prove myself, and that’s why I am here to do that” She paused and brought out her phone while Simon placed a Bluetooth speaker on the table and Jade connected it.
Stephanie scoffed out when she heard and saw what Jade was upto. She didn’t see why Jade was creating extra drama when she could easily accept her sack letter and buzz off. But who was she to complain. If Jade wanted to embarrass herself the more then she’d gladly watch and see the end of the show, she reasoned to herself, a triumphant smile splitting on her face. But her smile was short lived when she heard her voice coming out from the bluetooth speaker making her eyes to grow wide in shock. She snapped her head to look up at Jade. Her face turned gloomy while her hands shook.
“You bitch! Turn that off this instant. How dare you try to frame me?!” Stephanie roared as she jumped to her feet, attracting the attention of the people in the room who turned to look at her.
Jade turned and gazed at her with an inscrutable gaze.
“Ms. Stephanie do you recognize the voice?” Jade asked innocently. Jade’s question made the others look at Stephanie with curious gazes. Her abrupt reaction made her look suspicious. Majority of the people sitting there already had an inkling about what was going on.
Stephanie realized she might have just unnecessarily revealed herself. So she tried to Savage the damage she had caused. She toughened her gaze and glared at Jade.
“Of course not! What do you mean? I do not recognize that voice, it’s not mine” She stupidly blurted out.
