*Back at the auditorium*
Amy looked at the time for the third time, it’s been more than twenty minutes since Jade left for the restroom and she was yet to return.
‘Why was she taking too long?’ She asked herself. Amy turned towards the exit door which Jade had used to see if she was coming back already but she wasn’t
Amy was about to look away when her eyes caught sight of something familiar, or rather someone familiar.
‘She wasn’t seeing things right?’
Her heart skipped beat when she saw that familiar face. She blinked her eyes just to be sure it wasn’t her imagination but when she opened it again, but there was no one there.
Amy immediately turned around to look for who she had seen.
She wasn’t imagining things right? She had just seen….No way!
Her eyes darted back and forth as she looked around in a desperate search. Her heart racing so fast and anxiety was growing inside her heart. Amy looked around her but there was still no sign of that person. It was almost as if she had imagined it.
She turned to look back at the door and her eyes caught sight of someone walking out of the door, the person’s head was lowered and a hood was covering the side view. Without hesitation, Amy followed suit. She couldn’t help but take note of the familiar gait. Even the posture was the same.
She hastened her steps and hurried out as she tried to catch up. But the moment she stepped out of the door, she was surprised to find an empty hall. She looked at both sides of the hallway, but that there’s was no one there. It was empty. Amy’s heart was racing fast. She was sure she had seen that face. She ran her hand through her hair frustratedly. She had seen well right? She wasn’t imagining things? That was him. She had seen him.
Amy was confused.
She looked around again but she paused when she felt a tap on her shoulder. She didn’t know why, but her heart suddenly began to race faster and louder than it did seconds ago.
In slow motion Amy turned around and the moment her eyes saw the person standing in front of her, her heart almost stopped. She turned stiff as she stared at the person unblinkingly with widened eyes. She couldn’t believe it.
With quavering lips, and with an almost inaudible voice, She called out, “Mi….Mi…cheal?”
__________
Jake jumped out of his car the moment he arrived the club. He saw Phil and the guys standing outside the entrance with their phones pressed against their ears obviously trying to make calls. He had an ominous feeling in his heart when he saw their countenance and what really got him worried was Jade not answering her calls. He has been trying her number tirelessly on his way there, but she hasn’t been taking his calls.
He sauntered over to where they were standing in large strides.
“Have you seen that bastard?” Jake asked the moment he approached them.
“No” Mike replied.
“I swear I’m going to kill that bastard if he as much as lay a hand on my woman!” Jake roared in anger. Phil had informed him about what happened, and he was damn worried.
“Calm down we are going to get him. And nothing’s going to happen to her” Phil tried to comfort him but Jake didn’t look like someone who could be comforted at the moment. They kept trying to get in touch with Marcus but all to no avail, he wasn’t even receiving his call.
“Fuck!” Jake cussed for the upteempth time tonight. He regretted not insistinng on taking her to the concert. This wouldn’t be happening if he had simply gone with her. He knew how dangerous and ruthless Marcus and his men could be, a lot could be happening to his woman right now. If anything happened to Jade, he wouldn’t be able to forgive himself. She was his life. How could he had been so careless and let her go like to that place without him. Even if Marcus wasn’t involved in this, he should have insisted.
Jake tried Jade’s number one more time, but this time she just didn’t pick but her phone was also switched off.
“Where did she go?” Dan asked.
“Some bloody concert”
“Shit, that messed up” Rick cussed. A concert was highly populated and the chances of finding there was quite slim. It was same as looking for a needle in a hay stack.
“Wait, if she’s at the concert, then it also shouldn’t be easy for Marcus men to find her right. I mean that place is swarmed with people” Mike reasoned out, but Jake wasn’t listening to what they were saying. There were a thousand ways for those men to easily locate his woman but he didn’t have the time or will to lecture these grown ups.
Immediately Jake dialed Blake’s number to help him call Amy and at same time help him track Marcus number.
“What happened?” Blake asked with concern when he heard Jake’s distressed voice.
“Don’t worry, just get on it” Jake said dismissively.
“Tell me bro, are you okay? Is it sister in-law?”
“Just do what I asked you to do!” Jake snapped at him. He wasn’t in the right frame of mind and asking questions which he couldn’t answer was riling him up. He also didn’t have the answer to the questions he was been asked.
Phil and Mike walked closer but Jake raised a hand to stop them. He wasn’t in the right frame of mind at the moment. His girl was out there exposed to danger and the thought of something happening to her was driving him crazy.
“Just keep trying his number” Was all he could say at the moment before striding to his car. They all looked at each other panicly when Jake walked away.
“I’ll follow him” Phil offered and ran after Jake. Phil jumped into his car and followed Jake behind. They all knew just how crazy he could be when he was angry. His temper was something of legends. When he went beserk he’d lose all sense of reasoning and he’d do something he might regret afterwards. Knowing exactly how much he cared about Jade they all understood what he was going through. The man was on edge.
.…..
“Have you found him?” Jake asked in a very cold yet desperate tone.
“Yeah, he’s at his penthouse. I’ve sent you the address” Blake replied.
“What about Amy?” He impatiently asked.
“I can’t reach her. Her number is switched off, but her last location showed the Regent Center” That was the venue for the concert.
Jake felt his heart sink into his stomach when he heard Amy’s phone was switched off too. He almost felt like ramming his head on the wheel. Why was everything turning out like this?
“Bro can you tell me what’s going–” Blake was talking when he heard the beeping sound of the phone, indicating that the call has been disconnected. He sighed wearily and hoped nothing was wrong.
“Baby just be fine for me” He muttered, more like he was praying in his heart.
Jake’s grip over the wheel tightened as he floored the pedal to the ground and drove at the highest speed, running a lot of red lights. In no distant time, he arrived the hotel building where Marcus penthouse was situated. He approached the front desk with a very dark look in his eyes.
“Inform Marcus, Jake Beau is here to him right now” Jake ordered, startling the young girl on duty.
“Ye..yes sire” She stuttered and immediately called the penthouse. The man before her looked very scary. She said a silent prayer in her heart for the man who lived at the highest floor of the building. If there was something everyone who worked at the hotel knew was that, Marcus never liked receiving calls whenever he was in the penthouse, mostly especially when he came back with a girl, which happened to be the case tonight.
The girl took a peek at the brooding man’s face and she felt cold chill run down her spine. She muttered another round of prayer and like the heaven’s answered, a grumpy man picked the call, “You had better tender your resignation by morn–” That was the last word the girl heard when Jake snatched the receiver from her hand.
“You had better get down here this moment, or I’ll make your face the headline for all papers by morning, and all your bases raided by the cops” Jake spat out before slamming the receiver back on the counter top.
The girl jerked out of fright and placed the receiver back. She wished she could disappear.
Soon Marcus walked out of the elevator with a dark look on his face. He had no intentions of obeying such threats but he had the urge to see the face of the man who was bold enough to threaten him when he was having a good time. Who ever it was, must be courting death.
But the moment he saw Jake standing there and Phil rushing into the lobby, a small smile crept on his face as he beelined his way to them.
The moment Jake laid eyes on him, he rushed over, grabbing him by his collar as he demanded in an angry tone, “Where is she, you bastard?!” His tone and words made the smile on Marcus’ face falter as he looked at him confusedly. What the hell was he talking about?
“Where is who?” He asked in confusion. Jake’s grip over his collar tightened.
“Where’s my woman? Where’s Jade?” Jake asked in a more livid tone. Phil rushed over and held Jake’s hand on Marcus’ shirt.
“Leave him alone. You have to calm down Jake–”
Jake snapped his head towards Phil, “Calm down? You want me to calm down? My girl is out there and only God knows what his men could have done to her and you want me to chill?” He asked lividly. Phil clamped his mouth when he didn’t know what to say. Be could understand Jake’s feelings at the moment.
Listening to the exchange between the friends Marcus was able to put two and two together and his eyes widened. He looked at Jake with disbelief,
“Pretty mistress is your girl?”
Jake felt like slapping the hell out of Marcus when he spewed the nonsense that had just come out of his mouth. Who was he calling a pretty mistress? Hopefully not his girl.
Marcus let out an awkward laugh when he saw the murderous look on Jake’s face.
He placed one of his hand on Jake’s hand which was gripping his shirt tightly.
“Jake I know you have a crazy temper but can you let me go so we can find her? Delay is dangerous.” Marcus said in almost choked voice.
Phil also joined and patted Jake on the shoulder to calm him down.
Jake took a deep breath and relunctantly let go of Marcus shirt.
Marcus drew in deep breaths, “Jeez, you’re so fiesty man.” He hissed.
“Marcus!!” Jake growled.
“You can’t just come to my territory and bully me, so keep your cool. I’ll call my men off, but on one condition” Marcus boldly said. He was yet to say something else when Jake lunged at him, but Phil was deft enough to hold him back.
“How dare you?! You want to make conditions with me?!” Jake asked lividly.
Phil who was having a hard time holding Jake spoke up, “What condition?” He asked.
Marcus revealed a creepy and pleased smile, “I want you to help me acquire my father’s company” Marcus said with a serious expression. Phil looked at him with surprised eyes. Now he understood why people called him a psycho. Jake stared at him seethingly, all he could think about was beating this stupid guy to death.
“Why would you want to do that?” Phil couldn’t help but ask. Marcus’ father was a good man, and people loved the man and his company. And not to mention the man had done a lot for this stupid child of his, even though he was a huge embarrassment to the world of children, so why the hell was he vvying for his father’s company.
Marcus tsked, “Don’t look at me like that, I only want what’s mine. I can kill him and take it, but that’s not my style. It will be too simple. So are you doing it or not?” Marcus asked as he turned back to Jake.
“I’m not making a deal with you” Jake said with a tone of finality.
“Jake” Phil called, but Jake didn’t budge.
Marcus scoffed when he heard Jake, “It seems you don’t understand how much danger your woman is in. But don’t worry I’ll lecture you. Who ever wanted to harm your woman wanted a ‘full package’, do you know no what that means?” He asked and paused to pique Jake’s interest, while cocking a taunting brow at him. He continued without waiting for his answer.
“It means, she’s going to be drugged, ganged raped and deformed with acid, and oh! did I tell you of the part where there’s supposed to be a video?” Marcus taunted.
“You bastard!” Jake growled as he threw a punch at Marcus face making him stagger backward.
Marcus had not expected a punch from him. He winced in pain, “That’s a death punch, you have there” He said amusedly, as he licked the side of his lips which had blood dripping from it.
“So what do you say? My way or your girlfriend gets ruined. It’s your choice” He said tauntingly, flashing a creepy smile at Jake.
Jake gritted his teeth as he stared at the man before him with murderous eyes. If Jade wasn’t in a precarious position right now, he’d smash this idiots head against the wall.
Jake looked at him coldly, “If a strand of her hair is out of place, consider this deal over and your underground business done” Jake declared. He had no choice but to agree with him. This was for Jade.
Marcus revealed a satisfied smile, “That’s perfect”
“Now make the damn call” Phil yelled at him.
Marcus quickly whipped out his phone from pocket, his eyes widened when he saw the numerous missed call on his phone.
“You guys call much huh?”
Marcus dialed his subordinate’s number but the idiot chose that moment not to pick his call. He dialled another one’s number and still no response. They weren’t answering their phones.
Phil cocked a brow at Marcus when he saw the worried frown on his face. “What happened? Why aren’t you calling them?” Phil asked.
Marcus looked from Phil to Jake and replied, “They’re not answering”
“Fuck!”
“Jake calm down” Phil said in a bid to calm him down. But Jake turned to him with angry eyes, “Phil I swear if you tell me to calm down one more time, I’ll get mad at you” Jake snapped angrily. He wasn’t the type to transfer aggressions, and he fully understood that Phil was just been concerned for him, but he just couldn’t help it.
Phil also understood how Jake was feeling. He had watched him lose his father and he remembered how helpless he had been at the time, and now his girlfriend was in danger and he was still so helpless. He nodded and sighed deflatedly.
Jake turned to Marcus and ordered, “Keep calling!” His anxiety was growing. They were wasting a whole lot of time and a lot of things could be happening to Jade at the moment. God helps whoever was behind this. Even the heavens won’t be angry with him for returning their ‘kindness’ because they came after his woman first and he wasn’t going to let them go.
Marcus immediately dialed the number one more time. He was also anxious but not because of Jade, but because of the deal tied to finding her. He had been going after this folks for a while so he could seek their help in getting his father’s company since he lacked in the corporate world. And now that the opportunity had dropped on laps he couldn’t let it go so easily.
‘Those idiots had better take his call now, or they’ll live to regret it’ He sneered in his heart.
Fortunately one of his men finally picked the phone.
“Boss” The person called at the other side of the phone.
“Where are you?” He asked coldly. Jake and Phil tensed up when he spoke.
“We’re outside the Regent Center” The man replied.
“Have you seen the girl? Don’t touch her, just bring her here, right away” Marcus ordered.
“Erm…Boss I don’t think that’s possible” The man stuttered.
“Why? What is it?” Marcus inquired.
“Boss the girl is not with us”
“Wait what? If she isn’t with you then go find her!” Marcus ordered.
“Boss that’s the problem we can’t find her.” The man explained.
“What do you mean you can’t find her?” Marcus asked, his eyes darting towards Jake and Phil who were looking at him intently.
“Boss someone took her before we could get to her”
