I buried my face on his shoulder, hoping Dad wouldn’t noticed I was crying. It brought back sad memories of my childhood
“Why is it so hard to get over painful memories?” I murmured
I witnessed Uriana bringing men to the house, I had to confront her at some point. She hated that I’d always known exactly what to say to get to her and I was badly maltreated as a child
I was reputed to be a woman-hater when I was kidnapped and threatened to kill me unless Dad did as he asked
I could remember I told Dad not to sign his properties to her because I was ready to die just to relieve suffering but he smiled through his tears and said
“Uriel will never forgive me”
I didn’t know Dad was referring to my biological mother
Dad Patted me on the shoulder with a smile and said
“Richard’s daughter is very important to me. Have you ever wondered about how I become rich and powerful again?”
I nodded because I’ve asked myself that question several times. We were so poor that Dad couldn’t afford to feed me and my twin sister….
“That’s a story for another day but you can do your father a favour by taking the girl back, look after her and assume responsibility for her” he spoke up
“You should go now” Dad added.
There was something I wanted to know before going home but Dad stood up and walked toward door, clasping the door handle.
“The conversation is over” I thought. Pulling on my boots, Dad turned the door knob and opened it. I gave him a quick hug and quietly left the library, then got into the car.

The traffic made it take so much longer to arrive at Huxley’s house than usual.
Before I could pressed the front doorbell, I heard Lucy shouting at the top of her voice, so I could clearly hear her voice
“Dreams are fine as long as they’re responsible, but acting stupid and doing the smart thing are miles apart!
Because you’re beautiful, you are expecting to end up with Prince Charming right? It’s impossible, A dumb girl can’t marry my brother. So get ready to leave this house”
“It must be such a burden to be so gorgeous.” She gave a mocking laugh
It all sounds so utterly stupid now. I rang the doorbell, she opened the door a few inches and peered out.
“Ric!” She blurted out, wanting to throw her arms around me but I pushed her away
Aaliyah’s eyes widened in disbelief, she was probably surprised to see me. She leaned her head back and looked up at me, wiping the tears from her cheek
I went upstairs, straight to Huxley’s room. He was having a good sleep but I didn’t care
“Wake up!” I tapped my fingers on his leg
“You are here!” He exclaimed in surprise. He rubbed his eyes and sat up, peering at the clock.
“Lucy is someone who bullies, this shows that bullying is a part of who she is, but I’ll not let her or anyone oppress Aaliyah”
There was a deep frown on his face as he stood up and walked out of the room
He didn’t think twice before slapping his sister hard. He cursed and wrenched her up
“Do you know who she is?” Huxley half-yelled
I thought she’s a slut who sleeps around” Lucy replied, shrugging
I’ve had enough, I pulled Aaliyah up with both arms and walked out of the living room
“Ric wait, I’ll take care of Aaliyah” Huxley yelled, running after me
“See you later” I said. Then unlocked the vehicle, got in and drove away.
