Vera knocked on Maddox’s door repeatedly as Maddox slothfully opened the door for her
“Vera why are you disturbing my sleep”? Maddox asked.
His body felt heavy, his voice was low and rough and his brows were drawn together in a frown.
“Sorry to disturb your sleep, I want you to take me to the supermarket to get food stuffs, please….” Vera answer came just as the music switched to a shrill voice pleading to him to agree with her.
“What happened to the taxi? Can’t you board a taxi to the grocery store”? Maddox spoke with a gruff, masculine voice.
“It will take me up to twenty minutes before I walk out of this estate to get a taxi and i’m not feeling too good today, Please Maddox”, Vera said softly, making a pleading gesture
“I have a lot to do at the office Vera, I don’t want to go late to the office”, Maddox murmured, not ready to back down and yielded to what he should have resisted.
Vera had begged and peaded, but it seemed he would not change his mind, thus she thought of what to do so as to be flexible with her and got his attention. She faked crying, shedding tears of sympathy and sobbing as she dropped to her knees.
A long time passed, Henley heard the muffled, distinct sound of Vera’s sobbing in his adjacent room, he got up and stormed out of his room to catch a glimpse of what was happening and saw Vera on the floor crying.
Henley took Vera’s hand and pulled her to her feet and held her until her sobbing subsided, then asked
“What’s is the problem with you Vera”?
Vera pointed her finger at Maddox, staring at him
Henley glared at his brother, giving him the look of “Maddox what did you do to her”
“I only denied her of driving her to the supermarket, that’s all”, Maddox quickly clarified, making the situation less confused and more comprehensible
“What did Nanna say about making a woman cry? Henley queried his brother
Maddox agreed to go out with her more out of pity than anything as he shrugged
“I’m sorry Vera, give me few minutes and let me dress up, Maddox uttered and retreated to his room.
Henley released Vera from his arms and told her to wait for Maddox downstairs as he also went back to his room.
Vera cleaned the drop of tears on her face and walked down the stairs with a victorious smile.
“Cute kids, I wish I also have one”, Vera murmured under her breath

A few minutes later they were already on their way to the supermarket as Vera wore a beaming smile on her face.
“I’m sorry Vera I didn’t mean to make you cry, Nanna told us that it’s not good to make a woman cry that it causes bad luck and I don’t want that for my life”, Maddox apologized as he continued driving
Vera gazed in wonder at him as she spoke
“you’re such a cutie, you don’t have to apologize, I understand perfectly and I’m also sorry for disturbing your sleep.
