What do you understand by purpose?

According to Oxford Learner’s Dictionary, purpose can be given four different definitions.

1) The intention, aim or function of something; the thing that something is supposed to achieve.

2) What is needed in a particular situation.

3) Meaning that is important and valuable to you.

4) The ability to plan something and work successfully to it.

In a simple form, purpose can be referred to as what you intend to derive from doing something and its achievement.

*How Can You Live for Purpose

An adage says failure to plan, is planning to fail. In life, God created human being for a purpose, which is to worship Him. Whether a Muslim or Christian, both worship Him for the purpose of creation. Aside from the religious aspect of life, there are other ways in which man can live as a purpose.

According to the first definition of purpose which is “the intention, aim or function of something”. The above definition goes in line with planning, intention is what you plan to do, while purpose means to fulfil. When planning comes in, the next step is how to execute the plan and things needed in executing the plan. For example, a secondary school student preparing for WAEC examination, the first thing the student should do is that passing the examination was among the purpose he/she was sent to school.

The next thing is that the student will plan ahead for the examination, he /she needs to have time table aside from the one in school, gets all necessary textbooks, thorough reading and the last thing is prayer. After taken all the necessary steps involved in planning, if such student should sit for the examination, he/she will pass excellently because he/she has planned for the examination.

*How Can Your Life Be in Line with Your Purpose

Seeking is one of the ways in which your life can have correlation with purpose. Seeking means to try to obtain or achieve something. The word “seek” is useful in many ways, in achieving goal, in gaining knowledge and in acquiring things. Looking at the last definition of purpose, which is ” the ability to plan something and work successfully to achieve it.” In other to achieve what has been planned, it has to do with the ability to seek out for what surrounds it and steps to be taken in other to get it.

Here is an instance of someone who wants to be a medical doctor. The first step is that the person must undergo training, starting from Nursery, Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary institution. The person must be a science student, he/she must pass any examination that comes their way for them to be qualified doctor. We all know without going to school to seek knowledge and know what it takes to a medical doctor, but it is impossible for somebody who has not done this to become a medical doctor. Being a science student is the positive step that can give someone an assurance of choosing medical doctor as a profession which goes in line with purpose of living in life.

*How Can You Achieve Your Purpose

In achieving your purpose, you have to know what purpose you want to achieve, set the purpose and take the following steps in achieving your purpose.

1) Dedication: It means hardworking and effort that somebody puts into an activity because they think it is important

2) Hardworking: * It means putting a lot of effort into a job and doing it well.

3) Dutiful: It is an act of doing everything that you are expected to do; willing to obey and show respect.

4) Good attitude to work: It means doing work at the appropriate time and having full concentration in it to avoid errors in the work.

5) Perseverance: It is the quality of continuing to try to achieve a particular aim in spite of difficulties.

Conclusively, after setting a purpose, plan ahead for the purpose and apply the above the explained words during the course of executing the purpose and you will achieve positive outcome of it.
