❄ALISA POV❄
I looked at my daughter as she entered into the house and I barely recognised her. She looked so weak, kind of messy and unkempt
“Where are you coming from?” I inquired
She staggered to the sofa on which Gerald was sitting and dropped onto it, covering her face with her hand.
“Who did this to you?” Gerald asked
“Aaliyah” She answered and broke down, sobbing into her handkerchief
The sitting room was silent except for her whimpering. Her eyes were red and she blew her nose, but her wailing went on uncontrolled.
“She’s staying with Ric and I think she’s in a romantic relationship with him” Mia added
“Give me Ric’s home address” I said to her as I stood up in shock.
Gerald smiled, he had a wide grin on his face and, typically, downturned eyebrows, signifying evil intent.
“With this sinister smile it means he has something evil in mind, as in planning something evil” I thought. I eyed him suspiciously as I said goodbye and walked away
“Mum wait!” Melvin ran after me waving his fist. He took the car keys from me and got into the door
***
We arrived at Ric’s mansion an hour later. The gatekeeper did not allowed entry to the House, he told us they had house rules
“I’m not a stranger, Aaliyah will be pleased to hear from her Guardian” I found myself smiling as I told him
“Hang on a moment” He said and walked away
“I have enough time and patience to wait for as long as it takes for me to see Aaliyah” I murmured to myself
I climbed inside the car and sat down in the luxurious leather seat, staring absently out the window. We sat there for a long, long time, biding our time with our mobile phone
Except for stomach growls an hour or so before the gatekeeper returned, Melvin wasn’t complaining.
The gatekeeper finally showed up about 1.5 hours later, he opened half the gate to let us in and I marvelled at the splendour of the house
Ric tucked his hands in his pockets and stared at us as we entered into the living room
“Why are you here?” He demanded. He looked as mean as ever, a pallid, unsmiling figure in black-suede jacket and very shiny black shoes.
He stood with a tall, good-looking man with a rounded haircut, his facial expression was also emotionless, his chin was raised slightly and his eyes gaze off to his left.
I knew immediately that we would never feel welcome in this house with its cold, unemotional inhabitants.
Melvin followed my gaze and had his eyes momentarily captured by Ric’s stern look
“I’m here to see my daughter, Aaliyah. I missed her” I answered
He gazed down at me for a long time. Most likely thinking things over before he make decisions – even in small matters.
Then he motioned us to follow him and instantly we moved along behind him.
“He must have think that surely I wouldn’t have shown up after all this time and started a fuss” I thought. Besides, I began to wondered where Ric was moving towards without a word being uttered
Three minutes later, Ric flung the door open and we entered into a room. I was absolutely staggered when I saw Aaliyah. Melvin and I just stood there open-mouthed, in complete horror. My gaze lingered on her, her eyes were closed and she was alive but obviously unconscious. I hurried to her side and dropped on one knee beside her.
My mouth flew open wider this time and longer and louder words fell out of it
“What happened. Was she knocked unconscious by a fall? What did the doctor say? Will she be well?” I was confused and frustrated
Ric was sitting on the bed opposite me without a word. Before him on the bedside table stood a glass, he picked it up and emptied the contents down his throat. My natural curiosity led me to ask more questions.
“Tell me what’s wrong, What happened to her?”
He put the glass down on the bedside table and breathed deeply as if he wanted to get a great weight off his chest. For a long time he simply sat there, and when he finally spoke, his voice sounded powerful and authoritative
“Mia push her, and she fell down the stairs. I have satisfied your curiosity and the deed is done. So leave my house”
“Oh no!” My voice came back in a shocked whisper. My jaw dropped and words couldn’t described how I felt about the news
Ric stood up, he tucked his hands into his pockets again and fixed me with a hostile stare. I could sense the inhospitable atmosphere in the room.
“Take your leave!” His voice was stern
“You can seem stern, but deeply you’re a very kind person. I believe you will take care of Aaliyah in addition to my strong desire to take care of her” I muttered
I offered a prayer to God for her recovery. After that, I turned and left the room, my heels clicking across the tile floor and then fading as I moved down the stairs with Melvin trailing behind me
“Madam!” On leaving, I paused for a moment at the door
“I’m Kohen. Could I have your phone number?” He made a polite request
In silent acquiescence, I gave him my phone number. “Thank you.” He mouthed and hurried away.
I cocked a quizzical eyebrow at him in his direction and made my way to the parking space
“Mum is Ric in love with Aaliyah?” Melvin asked as he drove out through the gate
“How does it concern you? If Ric is in love with Aaliyah so be It” I replied
“But what about me? I love her” Melvin sounded dejected
He began speeding down the motorway as if pursued by a demon, oblivious to my angry stare
“Don’t get us killed. Slow down – you’re breaking the speed limit” I yelled
He shrugged as he glanced over my shoulder and gave a little laugh
I just muttered a quick prayer to God, asking him for forgiveness
