Relationship is a really wide phenomenon that can’t be exhausted. But for the sake of time and this class, we’ll be looking at it from the romantic angle. So, I’d define relationship in my own terms firstly.
Relationship is the manner in which two persons (male and female) associate to be shipped to a destination! In other words… It is a *relation* *ship* . That means, any relationship you’d be going into at any point in time should be leading somewhere. Leading to a number of things but ultimately, in the contest of tonight’s class.. *marriage* . So, if you’re in a relationship now and it’s not looking like it will lead to marriage… Bros and sis… You’re wasting precious time, Time to build, to shed off, to mould and remould your would be partner into the person you’d be proud off in the nearest future. And may I announce to you tonight…That a cheating husband/wife didn’t just start in marriage, A nagging wife won’t start in marriage either. In short, all negative acts you can’t think about in a marriage won’t start after marriage, It starts right in the stage of relationship, The dating/courting process. The only challenge is that we are too blinded by emotions to see the signs, we claim that love is blind. Bros, Na lie o, Love sees clearly, it’s just that we refuse to take the signs being revealed seriously. A preacher once therefore concluded… That if you claim love is blind, marriage will open your eyes!
Another person illustrated that when you get into a marriage, you are being imprisoned for life with a partner.. You therefore need to choose your partner wisely. Very quickly… What are the pointers to a successful relationship?
First off…I always like to tell people that every damn thing you love and cherish in your partner today will at some point diminish. The looks, the brilliance, the figure 8 shape, the broad shoulders… E go wash one day o, So what makes the difference? It’s called Commitment. Commitment is what keeps you going when love fades.If you know that the relationship you’ll be going into won’t be leading anywhere productive, just save yourself the stress of heartbreak and don’t bother going into it.
Secondly, it’s quite important that *Communication* is effective in a relationship too. A break in communication will most definitely lead to a break up. At the end of the day, what you’ll have is a shiprelation.
Next up is that… We should learn to have healthy conflicts in our relationships. It sure helps when two people disagree in order to agree. And for this to really happen, there is need for compromise. Not compromise in the negative sense but in the sense that either party is willing to let go of belief systems or ideologies that could hamper the relationship
Lastly, Respect personal space. Remember that before you got into relationship, you were first individuals with personal and private lives, being in a relationship almost doesn’t change that fact. Also, a very important pointer to relationship success is the presence of understanding. Understanding is that engine which relationships thrive upon.
There is really no perfect combination for a successful relationship, what works for A night not work for B, it is therefore important that each one puts in conscious and intentional efforts into the process of having a lovely relationship that would lead to a fairy tale happily ever after marriage.
