I sat up on the chair or should I say adjusted my sitting position whatever name you give to it, as the doctor came out of the ward. I stood up along with mummy Ope. The scene looked funny to me, if only I could laugh. Both spiritual and biological parents stood up.
“Doctor! How is she?” Mummy Ope asked.
“Why did you bring a dead girl to my hospital?” That was the question the doctor asked.
I was shocked.
“God please, don’t allow this happen. Please I beg you.”
“My daughter is not dead! Doctor! We didn’t bring a dead girl here!” Mummy Ope announced tearfully.
We had taken a look at Ope and checked if she was still breathing. She was breathing slightly. I don’t know how to describe it, but she was breathing slightly, that’s all I can say.
So we had to do what we had to do. Take her to the hospital. But the doctor was now telling us that she had died on the way.
I don’t know how I managed to do it, but I did it. I rushed into her ward and laid my hand on her chest. She was breathing slightly. Exactly the same way she was before we took her to the hospital.
I ran out like a mad person.
“She’s still breathing!” I announced.
I saw the shock it brought on the doctor’s face and the joy it sent to Mummy Ope.
“Young lady what’s the meaning of this rubbish you’re saying?”
I don’t want to go into details as to what happened with Ope because I was getting the shock of my life. The doctor and Ope’s parents entered the ward. He placed that thing doctors usually place around their necks to know if people were still breathing on my friend.
Abeg don’t blame me for not remembering the name. My brain is not functioning properly right now. I’m on fire. I just want Ope to wake up and smile at me. I just want everything to be back to normal again.
“I told you she’s dead! Where’s that liar of a daughter?” The doctor said furiously.
I wanted to hide, but I came out confidently. My Ope cannot be dead. Anyone who said she is is a liar.
The doctor was so dramatic that he took off his life and death instrument and wore it on my head.
“Oya check her by yourself. Since you’re now a qualified medical doctor!” He said mockingly.
I placed the to ol on her chest and this time I heard her slow heart beat. My Ope was still breathing.
“She’s breathing!” I announced.
“Really?” Mummy Ope asked.
“Yes ma!” I answered as I took off the tool and placed it on mummy Ope’s ears.
“Yes! I can hear my daughter’s heartbeat. She’s still alive!” Mummy Ope announced excitedly.
The doctor took off the stethoscope from Mummy Ope and examined her.
“What kind of confusion is this? This girl is dead please!” He announced and gave us a questioning look.
“Doctor! I am not a kid! I knew what I felt. She was breathing. I know it! My daughter is alive.I refuse to accept the lies of the devil in Jesus name. No witch can kill my daughter!”
“Haaa!” The doctor retorted.
“So I’m the witch that wants to kill your daughter?” He asked.
“No! I mean, my daughter was attacked by a witch. That’s what led to us bringing her here!”
“Haaaaa! Haaaaa!” The doctor screamed loudly.
We were all taken aback by the doctor’s dramatic reaction.
“So it was a spiritual case you brought to me sef? Haaaaa! E no go beta for ona!” He said angrily.
We were still trying to process what he just said with our brains when he helped us to assimilate it by saying.
“When you knew it was a witch that did it, you should have taken her to the prayer mountain na! You shouldn’t have brought her here to waste my time. No wonder why they kept making me see her as a dead person, while both of you kept seeing her as someone still alive.
Madam, please carry your spiritual battle and go. Don’t come here to make me look as if I’m not a certified medical doctor. Please carry your wahala and go!” He said and stormed out.
We knew from the onset that taking Ope to the hospital was never a solution. We just had to do what her parents wanted. We had no choice.
After taking her out of the hospital, they decided to move her to another one. But I strongly fought against it. I knew that’s going to be another waste of precious time.
“Let’s just take her to our place and rain prayers on her. Like the doctor said, this is a spiritual case and must be handled spiritually. A girl that was strangled without being touched physically. She should be brought back without being touched physically.”
Daddy and Mummy Ope were silent for what look like 30 seconds, before I got a yes from the daddy of the house.
I had already stationed my sisters to pray at the house while I went with the family. I knew hot prayer section is going on the the house already. I had already contacted Romeo and he rushed down to the house to join us.
As we drove into the compound, I could hear the war cry of the intercessors, coming out from mummy’s prayer room.
A pinch of joy filled me, but I resisted it. It would be a crime to be caught smiling in a terrible situation like this.
Daddy and Mummy Ope carried their daughter and laid her on the sofa in the sitting room. She was now getting stiff like a dead person. I tried to move her legs and arms, but it was proving difficult.
I quickly touched her chest to confirm what was my last hope. Lo and behold, she was dead.
I wanted to be sure, so I didn’t raise the alarm. I touched her and realized she was cold as stone.
“Jesus please!” I prayed inwardly.
Ella, Daddy, Susan, and Romeo were upstairs praying. So I wasn’t surprised when Ella came down to join me.
“How far?” She asked.
I gave her that look of disappointment and she exhaled.
“Should we call mummy?”
“Please do! I have done everything I can. I don’t know what else to do again. Nothing seems to be working!” I said tearfully.
She quickly brought out her phone and dialed mummy.
“Hello!”
“Mummy!” I screamed and took the phone from her.
“What’s going on? Why is your voice sounding like someone who has lost a relative?”
“Mummy it has happened! Ope is lying unconscious on the sofa right now!” I said in a panic striken tone.
“Unconscious or dead? You can at least say it the way happened. She has already left her body. Just go and bury her, you had every opportunity to advert what happened but you were a careless watchman.”
“Haaaaa! My mummy please!” I screamed in tears and went down on my knees.
“Mummy please don’t allow her go like that! I lost Fejiro! I cannot lose another person. Please, help me!”
There was a brief silence.
“Go to the prayer room, you remember that my study bible on my table, right?”
“Yes ma!”
“Place it on her chest and tell me what happens.”
I ran like a mad woman. I almost fell on the stairs if not for God who said I shall not fall. I opened the door and felt the heat of Intercession with full force. Everyone was sweating and groaning.
“Are those intercessors?” Mummy asked.
I was still holding the phone in my hand.
“Yes!”
“Tell them to change all their prayer point to just one prayer point. Lord show Ope mercy! That’s the prayer point.”
I quickly announced.
“Everyone! Please mummy said we should start praying to God to show Ope mercy. All our prayer points should be on mercy. That’s what mummy said just now!” I announced.
“How is she?” Daddy asked.
“It’s a long story, but she will be back soon. Just pray for the mercy of God to prevail!”
They all shut their eyes and began to plead with God for mercy.
I quickly rushed to get the bible from the study table and raced down the stairs.
I placed the bible on Ope’s chest and stood to watch what would happen. We all watched untill 5 minutes passed.
Ope’s dead body was telling us how stupid we were. I placed the phone on my ear.
“Mummy she’s not responding!”
There was no response. That was when I discovered that the call had dropped.
I quickly asked Ella for her password to open the phone.
“Type, Sweet Jesus!” She answered.
I typed it in a jiffy and unlocked the phone. I opened the dial pad and dialed mummy’s number.
“The MTN number you have dialed is not reachable at the moment, please try again later. Thank you.”
Those were the annoying words I heard. I screamed in frustration.
“Juliet, it looks like Ope is now dead. I can’t feel her heartbeat anymore!” Mummy Ope said.
“No! She’s still alive. Let me dial mummy’s number!” I replied.
Even before I joined mummy’s household, I had heard testimonies of how God used her to bring dead bodies back to life. If that anointing was still in her, this was the moment I needed it most. Mummy must bring Ope back to life.
“Daddy please don’t allow Ope to go like that. Take me instead! Take this careless disappointment of a daughter called Juliet instead of the innocent Ope,” I prayed within me.
I dialed mummy’s number again and got the same annoying response.
“Jesus please! Show us mercy. Let the call go, please!”
I dialed again but the network was ready to see Ope dead. Haaaaaa! Daddy no!
“Let me try!” Ella said I took the phone.
“This girl is begining to stench!” Daddy Ope announced.
“No! My daughter is not smelling!” Mummy Ope challenged.
“Listen to me! Enough of all this drama. We are all adults here and we are not stupid. We are matured enough to know when someone is dead and when someone is alive. This girl is dead. Let’s stop wasting our time and face reality.”
“God forbid that nonsense reality! A witch killed my daughter and you’re here busy confessing stupid reality. The bible says I shall not die but live to declare the works of the Lord. The bible also says that nothing shall take away thy young ones from you. No witch can kill my daughter!” Mummy Ope screamed at her husband.
There was silence in the room.
“Did the call go?” Daddy Ope asked Ella.
“No! The network is against us right now. Satan has blocked the network to ensure Ope doesn’t come back to life. Let’s pray that God should show us mercy and let the network go through!”
“That’s what we should do, not saying nonsense reality!” Mummy Ope said and held her husband’s hands and mine to form a circle.
I felt like telling mummy Ope that although the word of God said that we shall not die but live, sometimes we allow death when we disobey God. I guess this was not the time fro that lecture.
We spent an hour praying and throughout that one hour, Ella was busy dialing mummy’s number while we prayed. It never went.
Jesus! Are you trying to say Ope is gone?
To be continued………..
The bible says I shall not die but live to declare the works of the Lord. The bible also says that nothing shall take away thy young ones from you.
Sometimes, it looks as if God didn’t mean what he said when he wrote that down in his word.
It’s just like Samson. God never planned for him to be a blind man. God never wanted him to be a grinder in the prison. Grinding corn for the Philistines to eat and stay healthy.
But he allowed it when he chose to disobey God’s word.
I’m not saying sometimes this things happen despite our obedience to God. Sometimes we obey God and we see stuffs contrary to the word of God happening, just like in the case of Job.
And sometimes in the case of Jesus and his followers in the storm and they only needed to challenge that storm to give way.
Sometimes it can be test of faith, like Job. Or sometimes, it could be the enemy trying to play games around you and you just need to show them you carry fire.
Apart from those two, most of the experience of God’s word looking like it’s not coming to pass, is due to our disobedience.
That’s why one of the temptation Satan gave Jesus was to tempt God by jumping off the temple’s pinnacle. He knew he cannot kill Jesus, so he wanted to tempt him to a point where he becomes the one to kill himself. He tempted him to give him (Satan) the access to kill him.
Sometimes, the devil just needs your carelessness, your prayerlessness and your disobedience to achieve what he wants to achieve.
Please pray for Ope!
We don’t understand what is happening to MTN network.
