I sat down beside my seatmate Romeo. I was yet to know his name. That wasn’t important. I decided to continue calling him Romeo and made a promise to myself never to learn his real name.
Whatever entered him that suddenly made him nice to me I don’t understand. But I won’t allow what my father laboured to build in me to be destroyed.
“Good morning!” He greeted with a warm smile.
I returned the smile but said nothing.
Why would he be smiling at me like that? I won’t respond very well.
“JULIET REPLY HIM. HE’S ONLY GREETING YOU. DON’T BE OVER SPIRITUAL!” Came the gentle whisper.
“Good morning!” I greeted.
“I was wondering why you were not replying? I was thinking maybe the Holy Ghost told you not to greet anyone?”
“No ooo! I’m sorry I was just! Nevermind.”
“Just what?”
“Don’t bother,” I replied.
“I’m bordered! You know I’m a nice guy!”
I looked at him with shock written on my face. This guy was evolving ooo. He’s becoming something else. Somebody help me!
“When did you suddenly become a nice guy?” I asked.
“I’ve always been a nice guy, I don’t make trouble,” he said grinning.
“For your information you’re looking for my trouble and I’ll make sure you pay for it!” I said within a serious tone.
He looked at me and gave a scornful grin.
“Yes ma!” He replied and made a mocking salute.
I looked at him and shook my head in awe. People can change in a few seconds. I wonder who is influencing him negatively.
“YOU BETTER START PRAYING FOR HIM VERY WELL, BEFORE THE DEVIL SNATCHES HIM AWAY COMPLETELY. HE IS A GREAT MAN OF GOD AS YOU SEE HIM THERE. DON’T LOSE THIS ONE OOO!” Came the gentle whisper.
I was still opening my bag when Fejiro passed me. I quickly turned and grabbed her hand.
“Haa! Baby! Are you passing me like a log of wood? You saw me and you’re just passing like that. Why na?” I asked.
“I’m sorry about that! Please forgive me!” She apologized and gave me a smile.
I was shocked somehow. I stared into her face for nay confirmation of pretence.
She bent over and gave me a hug.
“Thanks for not giving up on me!” She whispered.
Now I got the message. It was genuine.
“I’m sorry I disappointed you. I was so worried you would leave me. But you still cane despite the fact that I got in trouble with Mr Clifford. I know he would soon be back looking for you,”
“Where is that arrogant girl! Juliet Andrew!” Mr Clifford yelled as he walked into the classroom.
“Where is Miss Andrew! Juliet!” He called furiously.
I felt like the ground should open and swallow me.
“Who is Juliet Andrew in this class? A student asked his seatmate.
“Sir! Are you referring to Juliet Anderson?” A girl asked.
“I don’t care the name! All I know is I want to know is where is she?” He asked and as fate would have it, his eyes met with mine.
“You disrespectful thing! Stand up!” He said and walked up to meet me furiously.
I quickly went down on my knees to plead with him.
“Sir please, I am sorry!”
“Sorry for yourself! You look innocent, but you’re full of lies and deadly poison,” he said angrily.
“Haa! What has she done?” Romeo asked.
“Good question! Please Juliet stand up and tell the whole class what you did.” He said.
I looked at Fejiro and saw the tears in her eyes. I knew I had to defend her. Everyone will be shocked to hear what I had to say.
I stood up and smoothed my skirt.
“Sir! I’m so sorry for what I said that day. Forgive me!” I said as tears prickled down my eyes.
“I didn’t ask you to cry for me. I said you should tell the whole class the rubbish you told me you saw the other day. That is what I requested for,” he replied.
I burst into tears, loud mournful tears that shocked everyone, including Mr Clifford.
He moved back and stood watching me.
I continued crying as if I had just lost a family member. I didn’t know what to do. I was just hoping the tears would do some good.
“Follow me! Now!” He said and walked out of the classroom. I quickly followed him and walked behind him.
“Why did you run away?” He asked as he turned to take a look at me.
I paused and bowed my head.
“I’m sorry sir. It won’t happen again! I’m not a bad person, believe me. My father trained me well. I don’t know what came over me that day. Please give me a second chance,” I said and wiped a few years from my eyes.
He looked at me and shook his head.
“I don’t know why, but I need you to answer one more question. What did you come back?” He asked.
I looked at him and met him staring at me for answers. I knew I had to produce one. The reason why I had to produce one was the fact that no one would love the answer I had to give to him.
How would I tell him that I came back because God wants me to I come? That would be the biggest joke of the century.
“I just got here. I haven’t spent more than a month.”
“Juliet!”
“Sir!”
“Why did you come back?” He asked with a serious intonation.
I looked at him and saw he was staring at me intensely.
“Sir! My mom chosed this school for me.”
“Juliet! Why did you come back? Tell me the true spiritual reason,” he said, maintaining his facial expression.
My eyes widened with shock as I stared at him with fear.
“Sir what do you mean by spiritual reason?”
“You should be the one telling me that. Answer my question, why did you come back?”
“I don’t understand, what do you mean by spiritual reason?”
He looked at me and placed a hand on my shoulder.
“State your spiritual identity!”
I looked at him with shock written on my face. Was he a cultist or what?
He looked at me and shook his head in disappointment.
“Why would they send you? What must they be thinking?” He said and got me more confused.
Please can someone tell me what’s wrong with my mathematics teacher? Why is he going insane and saying rubbish things out of his mouth?
“Sir! Are you alright? What’s happening to you?” I asked as I was beginning to take a few steps backwards.
“Juliet! You ought to know where you are. Broadway academy is not a school. That’s the reason why everytime you try reporting what you see happening, you end up getting into trouble.
This place is nothing but a demonic disguise to drag destinies and virtues and swallow them up. It’s a business center. Many students have been buried here through immorality. We are destiny traders. We sell virtues here on a daily basis.
I’m surprised that the kingdom you represent is sending you to us. Why would they send a weakling like you? You don’t have what it takes yet on you for what awaits you in this empire.
Juliet! I want to give you an opportunity. Please make good use it f this opportunity and save yourself. Go back into the classroom. Pack pack your load. Your bag and baggages and get out now!” He said and stamped his feet.
I jerked back and looked at him. His eyes were looking red to me. I moved back looking at my teacher as if I was seeing a ghost.
“God is this what you brought me here to do? You brought me into an occultic place and called it my school. This was what you told mummy to to do. This was where you told mummy to send me to learn?
God, please I want to learn, not fight all thes battles you’re bringing to my doorstep. I don’t understand what is happening. Please, I cannot cope. I have to leave.
“Sir! Why do you say this place is an occultic place?”
“I used to be a Christian before. That was before I came here. I was an excellent teacher, an envy to so many. The proprietress became find of me and began to shower me with gifts and lots of attention. I didn’t know she was only setting a bait.
She invited me to her house and when she came to meet me in the sitting room. She was putting on something skimpy and transparent. Nothing was hidden. I knew I had to leave, but I don’t know what made me too stupid not to.
I don’t need to tell you what happened. I fell and that was the end for me. That night, I saw myself in a meeting sitting among people dressed in red. She was one of them. They all clapped and welcomed me. They congratulated her for bringing a new member.
I was initiated that day because they told me I already slept with a member of their fraternity, that they could kill me if I refused to join them. I knew God had forsaken me. I knew I was nothing but at the Devil’s mercy.
That was how my journey into hunting and destroying virtues through immorality started. I became one of her top secret agent.
Well, I’m not here to make a confession. I’m here to help you avoid what I didn’t avoid. When I first came here, I saw the darkness in this place and told myself I was going to burn down this territory and take it for Jesus. Instead of me taking it for Jesus, it took me for the devil.
Now, I’m a full time agent. Juliet! Your father failed his generation. What makes you think you can be different from him? You carry his blood in your veins. His DNA, his weaknesses, his stubbornness, his rebellion and of course the immorality your mother transferred into you.
Everything about you is nothing but a failure. What makes you think you can destroy something that destroyed me? What makes you think you’re any different from me? From your father? Your prostitute mother?
What makes you think that you can make it? You have already been lusting after boys in this school already. You are on your way down. Just run now that you have the opportunity.
Because I’m here to announce to you that a new demonic squad has been assigned to finish the job in all those students who are yet to be initiated. And they are moving fast.
Romeo is already going, Fejiro is on her way down. That boy that was assigned to her is going to sleep with her and transfer a deadly disease into her and she’ll die after sleeping with him in a few days.
There are still many girls and boys that are seriously under attack and you yourself can testify that you’re also being attacked.
What are you waiting for? Won’t you run for your life while you still have the chance?”
Tears flowed down my eyes as I ran as fast as I could. I grabbed my bag, grabbed my books and strapped my bag across my shoulder.
“Where are you going?” Fejiro asked, holding my hand.
“Madam you will not understand. You even need to run like me if you love your life. You would need to even run more than me
