THE SACRIFICE Episode 65

Amy and Ethan were both sitting in his convertible, parked outside of the Walkers mansion.Amy’s mother and her accomplice had both left them behind, asking Ethan to drop Amy off.”I can’t believe I’m right here with the ‘Ethan Hills’ in his car” Amy said excitedly.”I guess your fans will die of jealousy when they find out we are friends…Hehehe” Amy chirped.”Come on. Don’t act like that too” Ethan said with a amused smile.”Do you know i have all your signed albums?””You do?” Ethan asked doubtfully. He knew how he must have hurt Amy, when he left, so he didn’t expect her to have all his albums. Most importantly, he didn’t expect Amy to give him a happy welcome like she was doing now….Well he did get juice spilled over his shirt. That was Amy anyway.”Of course.” Amy nodded.”So tell me how did you get your folks to let you go into music?” Amy was curious. Knowing Ethan’s parents, she didn’t think they would easily allow their child do something like that, most especially when his father had an empire.Ethan laughed, “Are you getting a free interview from me?” Ethan asked, while Amy shrugged making Ethan smile. Amy never did change. Seeing her like this made him remember their high school days.”Well it wasn’t easy, but I guess they finally understood the true meaning of dreams. But the truth is they only agreed based a compromise” Ethan told her.”Compromise?” Amy was confused.”Yeah, I promised to stop singing after I’ve become famous, and also I have my 10th tour””Really??” Amy couldn’t believe it. “And you agreed?””Sure, you know that as much as I like singing, I also like the company. I guess it’s the best they could do, and I happy things happened this way” Ethan had a happy smile on his face.”Wait! This means this will be your last tour?” Amy eyes were about to pop out. Ethan had gone on nine tours.”I see you have been following me up” Ethan said with a smile not quite reaching his eyes. It seems Amy didn’t actually forget about their friendship.”Oh no” Amy commented with a sad pout.”Anyway, I guess it’s for the best. You have to help your dad after all””Yeah” Ethan replied, while Amy signed and closed her eyes with her face up.”So what do we do about this? Those women would not let us be until they get what they want” Ethan looked at Amy who still had her eyes closed.”What do you want us to do? And please don’t bring up that stupid idea of us getting married again” Amy warned.”I don’t know too. We’re no match for those women” Ethan stated.”I really can’t believe that they would do something like that” Amy opened her eyes to look outside the window. Her mother must be inside feeling proud of herself for orchestrating such a stupid plan.Amy bit her lips when she remembered when she had almost asked Blake if he was the anonymous sender. Thank God she didn’t. She would have probably died from the embarrassment. Now it made sense. Her favorite chocolates….she has always wondered how the sender knew about her interest in that particular chocolate. But something still felt amiss. Why were they two different flowers? A tulip and a rose. Now that Amy thought about it, something didn’t make sense.’She wasn’t sure her mother knew she liked tulips, or maybe Lair told her’ Amy reasoned to herself. So if her mother sent the tulips, who sent the roses? But what if her mother didn’t send the tulips?? Then who sent them?Amy shook those thought out of her head. There was nothing much to think about. It might have been a mix up between her mother and her accomplice.Amy jerked back to reality and turned to look at Ethan when he cleared his throat. The car became suddenly quiet.”What are you thinking about?” Ethan asked.Amy stared at intently. There were series of questions in her mind that she wanted to ask him, and maybe he could provide the answers for.”Why did you leave?” Amy asked softly.”And don’t tell me you is about pursuing your dreams, because we already talked about it even before graduation” Amy paused to see if he was going to say something, but when he didn’t she continued.”Why didn’t you call me all this years?..If not for your mum, I would have forgotten I ever had a friend like you. Did I offend you by chance? I thought long and hard about it, immediately you left after our high school graduation.”I sent you a bunch of messages when I got into the university, but you didn’t text back. I also sent you a direct message on Facebook to congratulate you on yours, but you didn’t reply. There were no birthday wishes, no check up calls nothing..So tell me what happened Ethan..What did I do?” Amy voice was emotional as she spoke. She and Ethan had been friends since when their mothers became close friends, and Lair was the big brother to them both. Always settling the fights between them and helping with their assignments like a big brother would. They had plans to attend same university, maybe somewhere far from home where their mothers wouldn’t watch over them like hawks, and they would rent an apartment together and become flatmates and create so much havoc in school. But things change, when Ethan suddenly wanted to go live with his brother overseas. So she didn’t know what could have happened that he just left without saying a word.Ethan looked away and sighed deeply. He couldn’t bring himself to look at Amy after hearing that. This was why he had never wanted to come back. He couldn’t look at her without feeling guilty.Amy noticed his unwillingness to talk and her heart clenched.”Is it really that bad?” Amy asked in a calm voice. She was completely lost about what she could have done.”It’s okay..If you don’t want to talk about it, then that’s fine” Amy said with a sad smile, because she really wanted to know. She would have been very lonely when he left, but thankfully Jade showed up in her life. And Jade had taken the place Ethan left vacant.Ethan turned back to look at Amy. The sad look on her face was obvious to all.. He guessed it was time he told Amy the truth._____Amy steps as she walked into the house were heavy and earth shaking. Her face were beet red with anger, and her eyes cold. Her hands were tightly clenched into a fist as she walked into the sitting room. She saw her parents who were sitting at the dining table, but her eyes settled on her mother who had a cheerful smile on her face.Amy’s movement caught her mother’s attention. “Amy you’re back” Mrs Walker called with a broadened smile.Amy didn’t know what to do or say as she angrily stared at her mother. She didn’t know what to do with the confession Ethan has made. If what he said was true, how was she going to look at her mother from henceforth? She had spent the last few years of her life, feeling scared. And now she gets to find out all her fears, doubts and insecurity were because of her mother?”Is everything okay?” Mrs Walker asked with concern as a frown appeared on her face. She didn’t like the Amy was staring at her.”Princess are you okay?” Amy’s father asked when he noticed Amy’s frown.”Good.. evening dad” Amy thought she greeted, but realized she couldn’t find her voice. Her chest was heaving up and down, and she could suddenly fell pain in her heart, as it was clenching too tightly. She was yet to come to term with Ethan had said.Could her mother really do something like that? Did her happiness mean so little to her?Amy’s parents jumped to their feet and hurried over when they observed what was going on with Amy.”Amy are you okay?” Mrs Walker was worried. She reached her hand to Amy but Amy took a step back.Mrs Walker’s hand was left hanging as Amy stared at her. She turned to husband in confusion. Why was Amy suddenly acting up?”Amy…””Is it true?” Amy finally asked, making her mother utterly confused.”Is what true?” Mrs Walker asked back.”Did you really do that to Micheal and his family! Did you threaten him to…?” Amy couldn’t find the rest of her words.”What are you talking about?” Mrs Walker was still confused. The name Amy had called did ring a bell in her head but she couldn’t remember who it was.”Mom??”A light bulb flicked in her head and Mrs Walker finally realized what Amy’s attitude was all about.”Is that why you’re acting this way?” She hissed, completely unfazed about this new development. She didn’t see the reason to cry over it now.”You were a teenager, a stupid teenager and I only had your best interest at heart”Amy looked at her with disbelief. She wasn’t even feeling guilty knowing that the truth has come to light. Amy snickered, “Is that all you have to say?””Are this cold and mean?” Amy couldn’t believe she was not feeling remorseful.”Mom how could you have done that? Couldn’t you have talked to me about it?””And then what? You’ll plead with me to let you be with someone like him? You’ve always been rebellious” Mrs Walker snapped.”Was that reason enough to hurt me the way you did? Do you know how much you actions have hurt me all this years? And how could you ruin someone in such a way” Amy’s eyes turned misty.Amy was trying so hard to control her emotions. She could still hear the words her ex had said to her that day. Amy had felt like she could die. Micheal had visited her in school, and he had broken up with her, saying the meaniest of words, which has made her to always second guess herself. Now to find out all those words might be her mother’s own words, was very disheartening.”Come on Amy you didn’t know what love meant at the time. I only did my best to protect you, so you should be grateful!” Her mother declared.Amy was surprised by her mother’s words. When Micheal had broken up with her, she had wanted to run after him and beg him to give them a second chance, but she didn’t. Now she was thinking she should have. She didn’t know he was passing through the hell her mother had dug for him. Amy wasn’t feeling angry because her mother had done something this mean, but because she felt she should have known better. She should have believed she loved someone who loved her too.Being rejected and dumped by someone she loved was something that has marred her heart. She had almost given up on herself and on love.”Mom, where is he?” Amy asked the question that has been on her mind since Ethan told her the truth.”How would I know? He left” Mrs Walker casually replied.”Dad talk to mom, tell her to tell me where she kept him” Amy’s father who has been lost in the conversation between the women, exchanged glances from his wife to his daughter.”Honey..””Stop it, I don’t know” Mrs Walker interjected.”Mom! I know you do. And I’m giving you fourty eight hours to show him to me, or else I’m moving out and I’ll never recognize you as my mother again” Amy declared in a commanding tone, before turning to leave.”Amy stop right there” Her mother ordered the moment Amy walked past her and her father, and started for the stairs.Amy reluctantly stopped on her stride before turning around to look at her mother who was staring death glares at her.”So you want to threaten me now? And who gave you the right to walk out on me?” Mrs Walker yelled.”Oh please mom this isn’t your court room. You should be feeling remorseful and looking for a way to fix things. Do you the magnitude of what you’ve done? How could do that to me?” Amy could barely try to keep her voice down.”Do you know the emotional torture you’ve put me through? What gave you the right to do all the things did?” Amy asked lividly. She has had enough of her mother’s dictatorship. She did only the things she liked without putting others feeling into consideration.”Amy stop it. That’s your mother you’re talking to” Amy heard her father’s warned sternly.”No, leave her be. Let her talk to me the way she please. All because of that fool.””Mom, no one is talking back at you. The problem is you’re the only speaking in this house and you’re not used to hearing anybody’s opinion, and you’ve gotten used to it. But mom, you’ve gone too far. Bring Micheal back or all hell with be let lose” Amy said before storming away. She bumped into Lair who was standing at the top of the stairs, listening to what was going on.”Sorry” Amy’s eyes were stinging with tears.”Come on” Lair put a hand around her shoulder and led her to her room.
