THE SACRIFICE Season 2 Episode 18

Amy perfectly understood what Ethan had tried to do, but she didn’t think it was necessary since Blake had been clear about his feelings for her. How many times was she going to tell him that?!

She walked towards Blake with a smile etched on her face, but his countenance was stoic as he watched her approach him.

“Good morning sir” She greeted smilingly. Blake narrowed his eyes at her when she heard how she addressed him.

‘Sir?’ Were they back to being formal again?

“Sir?” He cocked a brow at her, a frown threatening to appear on his face. Amy pursed her lips embarrassedly and flashed an awkward smile at him when she realized what she had done.

“I’m sorry” She apologized.

Blake looked away from her towards the direction that Ethan had just followed, but the man was gone.

Amy noticed his line of light and followed it, but she didn’t find anything or anyone. So she turned to look at him.

“Waiting for someone?” She asked. She didn’t know who or what he was looking at.

“No” Blake replied, glancing back at her.

“Then are you going out?” She asked again.

“No” He replied again. Amy furrowed her brows when she noticed his attitude. He seemed cold and his answers were monotonous. ‘What’s wrong with him?’ She asked herself.

“Blake, are you okay?” She asked with concern. Blake didn’t know if he should answer that? He didn’t even know the answer for himself.

Was he okay? He didn’t think so. Because if he was, he wouldn’t be here feeling angry over nothing, neither would he be feeling upset over seeing her hug someone else, or have someone kiss her even if it was on her head.

No, he wasn’t fine at all. Something was happening to him and he didn’t know why? But all he knew was that his Amy had changed. She wasn’t like this before. She was more chatty with him, and would only smile at him in the company, but now she was acting indifferent towards him and was currently being more involved with someone else.

These thoughts were about to drive Blake crazy. He intensed his gaze in a convincing manner and said, “I’m fine” before turning around to leave.

Amy raised a brow in confusion when he suddenly turned his back and started walking away.

‘What’s really wrong with him?’

Amy hurried after him and walked into the elevator with him.

She watched as Blake pressed the button to the tenth floor, she was supposed to go back to her office on the seventh floor but she decided against it, and chose to join him. She was sure he was still working on the software just like yesterday, and she wanted to be a part of it. After being with her team members she was convinced that they didn’t have what it’d take to handle the situation on ground. She’ll pair up with Blake and probably learn a thing or two from him. And secondly, she had enjoyed working with him yesterday…It felt good being with him like that, even if it was just for walk. Though she was trying to get over her feelings for him which has proved to be very hard, she had very much enjoyed being with him. His presence tend to have this calming effect on her stupid heart which has proved to be very stubborn and dumb.

“Are you going to the programming room?” She asked. But there was no response from Blake, making her turn to look at him. She was surprised to see him looking at her in a weird way.

‘Why was he staring at her like that?’ His gaze was piercing and intense.

“Blake?” She called softly.

“Are you dating him?” Blake suddenly spurted out, his tone was cold and slightly tense. Amy’s brows lifted up when she heard him. Where did that come from?. She blinked at him confusedly. Why was he asking her that?

She opened her mouth to reply, but a thought suddenly came into her head. Her eyes slightly grew wide when she thought about the possibility of that thought being real. She looked deep into Blake’s eyes, her eyes searching his for any clue. He was giving her a look she had seen in him before. It was like that of anger, vexation and….jealousy.

Her heart skipped a beat when that word passed through her mind.
Jealousy!

‘No way!’ She gushed in her mind. There was no way Ethan had been right about him. She looked at him in stupefaction. She didn’t want to believe that it was exactly what she was thinking. She tried to compose herself so as not reveal any emotions.

‘Blake was actually being Jealous?’ She asked herself in incredulity. That wasn’t possible. It wasn’t real, she was just probably overthinking things…damn that stupid Ethan for putting such thoughts into her head.

Amy looked directly into his eyes as he eagerly stared at her, impatiently waiting for her answer.

Amy opened her mouth to say no, but she heard herself saying, “Maybe” with a suggestive shrug.

Her eyes intently stared at Blake, trying to ascertain his every expression, but to her disappointment his face remained stoic….completely inscrutable.

He nodded at her before turning ahead, and immediately the elevator chimed as it arrived the tenth floor. Blake worked out of it without paying as much as look to her.

He didn’t want to look at her face. Why does it feel like he had been cheated on? Why would she go and date a guy just after she had told him she liked him. Was that how feeble her feelings were? She wasn’t being sincere in the first place.

This was pure insincerity.

Amy looked at his back as he walked ahead with heavy steps and with a stiff back. Amy felt sort of disappointed when she didn’t get any reaction for him as she had expected.

Maybe she was the one that was indeed imagining weird things in her head. Blake didn’t like her, so why should he be Jealous of Ethan in the first place?

She was just being stupid again. She cussed herself. She really has to do something about these stupid feelings of hers.

Amy followed the brooding man into the server room. She tried not to show the disappointment on her face, as she looked over at Blake who was now forcefully typing on the keyboard without looking at her. She looked at him with dull and sad eyes. Maybe she should just leave, he doesn’t seem to be in the right mood.

She sighed and said, “I’ll just leave”, but Blake kept typing like he hadn’t heard her. Amy looked at him one more time before turning around to leave. She didn’t like the way she was feeling right now. She was suddenly feeling sad and depressed.

Blake frowned when he notice her leave. She was going to leave just like that? His hand paused on what he was doing and he swivelled his chair towards her.

“Don’t you like me anymore?”.

Amy froze on her track when she heard that. What did he just say? Did…did he just ask her if she didn’t like him anymore? Was that what the just asked her? She wasn’t sure if she had heard him well.

Her heart suddenly began to race for no reason, as she continued to stand stiffly, waiting for him to repeat those words she thought she had just heard.

She was desperately waiting for him to repeat what he just said again. She didn’t want it to seem like she was the one assuming things.

Blake looked at her in anticipation. He noticed the way her shoulders stiffened when he asked her that question. He was sure she had heard him, but why wasn’t she saying anything? Why was she not turning around to look at him, and was simply standing there?

Blake didn’t know how much he wanted to hear her answer to that question until this very second when she still didn’t turn around to look at him, or say something. He felt a sudden tightness in his chest when she remained that way.

He let out a sad smile, it seems her silence was her answer. Why had he asked her that question in the first place? He had just successfully embarrassed himself.

This was definitely unlike him, what had gotten into him?
He should have respected himself and not had bothered to embarrass himself this way.

Blake turned around and continued what he was doing. it was better to focus his energy on this, than on issues that he shouldn’t be bothered with.

Amy slowly turned around when she heard the tapping sounds of the keyboard. She glanced at him and it was like he hadn’t said anything in the first place.

Had she just imagined that? Amy’s gaze lingered on him for few more seconds before she turned around and beelined her way out of the office. There were so many emotions searing through her heart right now and she didn’t want to focus on them. She just wanted to be away from him.

Blake sighed out dejectedly when he heard her walk out. He didn’t know why he was suddenly feeling this way.

What has changed?

He placed his hand on his throbbing chest and sighed.
…..

*Simon’s Office.*

“You look better than you were yesterday” Simon pointed out when Jade walked into his office.

“Thank you sir” Jade greeted with a small smile.

“Take a seat” Simon offered as he bent down and picked up a flash from one of his desk drawers. Jade was slightly anxious as she sat down in his office. She had no clue why she had been called and the feeling of not knowing was creeping her out. She was sure this had to do with what Sara was about to tell her before Julius stopped her.

‘That damn guy’ She hissed inwardly.

She hoped she hadn’t done anything wrong.

Simon lifted up his head to look at her, and he could see the nervousness in her eyes. He let out a small laugh when he sensed her unease.

“You don’t have to be so nervous” Simon said with a teasing smile.

“Am I that obvious?” Jade asked back.

“Hhmm” He nodded his head, while still smiling at her. “You don’t have to be tensed, it’s nothing serious….okay it’s something serious, but it’s definitely not bad” He assured her. Jade let out a relief sigh, automatically letting go of the breath which she had been holding unknowingly to her.

“So why have you called me?” Jade asked curiously yet politely, her eyes impatiently looking at him. Simon dropped the flash in his hand on the table, and slid it towards her.

Jade picked up the flash and gave it thorough look before looking at Simon inquisitively.

“What’s this?” She asked.

“It’s your first graphic presentation” The man announced with a broad smile on his face. Jade cocked her brows at him in confusion. She didn’t understand what he meant.

Simon understood the look she was shooting at him. “I got a call from the developing department this morning and they said ‘Level up’ is gonna be our next big game” He announced with a broad and proud smile, his eyes litting up excitedly.

Jade’s eyes grew wide in an instant, almost falling out of it’s socket, with her heart almost making a big leap in her chest.

“Really?” She asked in utter disbelief

“Yes”

“No way” She gasped.

“Oh yes way” Simon responded, his smile broadening up as he saw her smile lit up her face.

Jade looked at the flash with incredulity.

“Is this really true?” She asked again.

“Of course” He nodded assuringly.

“And that’s why we said, who better to present it to the board than the designer and renovator herself” Simon gushed.

“Me?” Jade pointed at herself in total disbelief.

“Yes you. You’ll be presenting the design to the board on the next meeting, tomorrow” He told her.

“Wait, what? Tommorow?” Jade asked in both shock and surprise.

“Yes tomorrow” He nodded affirmatively.

“But’s that’s too soon” Jade complained in trepidation. That was improptu, she didn’t think she’d be able to prepare for a such a presentation with the little hours she had.

This was huge. As a matter of fact it was more than huge.

Simon smiled when he saw her that way. “I think you’re more than capable. You just don’t know what you’re capable of” Simon told her proudly.

“You’re giving me too much credit sir. This is really unexpected and difficult-“

“And I’m sure you’ll be able to handle it” He said confidently.

Jade just stayed there and stared at him with nothing to say. She looked at the flash in her hand one more time in awe. She really couldn’t believe this was happening to her.

What has she done to attract so much favours. These were all unexpected. First it was getting her internship here, then the contract with Acrosoft which got her a position at the company, and then there was her man too, and now this?

To think that she had actually picked up this project which had long been abandoned and had just playfully worked on it out of boredom, and had casually shared her idea with Simon. Who knew something as huge as this was going to come from it?

Jade was stupified.

“Okay that’s enough, you had better go and get yourself ready” Simon said dismissively when she kept looking bewildered.

Jade stood up to her feet even though she was still very much surprised and equally worried.

“Thank you sir” Jade appreciated the man with a slight bow.

“Thank me tomorrow, now get out of my office” He said jokingly. Jade nodded her and turned to leave.

Just as she was about to turn on the knob of the door to leave, Simon called out.

“Jade, I’m proud to have you on my team” Simon said with pride, which made Jade smile.

Yes she also felt proud of herself too. These were all too much for her.

There was just one person she wanted to share this good news with and hear him praise her too.

Jake Beau.
