THE SACRIFICE Season 2 Episode 52

*At the hospital.*

Lair hasn’t been able to step a foot outside of the grandfather’s Beau room. He had given him some medications which were running intravenously. He could still remember how the old man cringed when he stuck a needle in his hand. Funny! He smiled.

Lair was still busy going through the old man’s medical file when a middle-aged man stepped into the room dressed in a lab coat. It was one of Lair’s Superior colleagues. Lair’s lip curved upward when the man stepped into the room. It was as he suspected.

“Dr David.” Lair politely greeted.

“Dr Walker.” The man greeted back with a handshake.

“How is he?” Dr David asked tilting his chin towards the old man who was sleeping.

“Not good, but he’ll live,” Lair replied while the man nodded his head.

“Okay, I’ll be taking it from here.” The man said making Lair cock his brows.

“I’m sorry sir but this is my case,” Lair stated making a sigh.

“Yes I know, but he’s also my patient. I’m his family doctor and I’m very familiar with his case. You know how these things are right?” He asked Lair who nodded his head in understanding.

“Okay sir, here’s his file,” Lair said handing the case file to him. The man received it and patted his shoulder.

“Thank you for looking after him.” The man appreciated Lair who nodded and walked away but not before looking at the camera secretly placed in the room.

Lair had removed the results of the test he had carried out on grandfather Beau. If this must work he had to make sure whoever this person was he/she doesn’t get a clue about. He had a feeling he had seen who he was looking for but he had to hundred per cent sure. He paused at the door and looked at the man who seemed to be impatiently waiting for him to leave.

“Dr David.” He called.

“Yes.”

“Do you think that his predicament might have an underlying cause?” Lair inquired, his gaze intently fixed on the man as he tried to observe every of his expression. And he couldn’t help but notice the look of unease that graced the man’s face.

“What do you mean?” The man nervously asked. “Do you think he’s been poisoned or what?

“Poisoned?” Lair asked feigning surprise before erupting out in laughter. Shaking his head Lair replied, “Dr David you’re going too far.”

“Then what do you mean?” Lair noticed how unsettled he was. And of things, he could come up with as medical personnel why poison?

“Well, I just found his case weird. He tends not to be improving despite the several medications he has been placed on. So I thought we might just be looking at the wrong thing, maybe a primary condition that has resulted in the symptoms he’s presenting.” Lair shrugged while the man’s face regained its calmness.

“I don’t think so. But I’ll look into what you’ve said. Thank for sharing your input with me.” The man said with a genuine smile which Lair responded to before walking away.

Lair scoffed the moment he stepped out of the room. He looked at the door and shook his head. Dr David was indeed the culprit they were looking for.. All he had to do was catch the man red-handed, and he knew exactly how to do that.

Lair made his way to the director’s office, he needed him to witness this. Exposing Dr David was going to be troublesome and difficult if he simply used the camera footage especially if he was going to administer the same drug to grandfather Beau as he suspected he would. He was convinced that they might try to kill the man again with that same drug because it would look like a normal cause of death since he already presented with chronic heart problems.

The oldman’s present condition was precarious and one more dose of that drug was going to kill him, he might die of cardiac arrest or maybe myocardial infarction or worse he might choke on his own vomit. How cruel could this people be?!

He needed the director to witness the scene with his own eyes because the camera might not be able to capture the drug Dr David might administer and the man could easily claim it he had administered another drug.

Lair knocked on the Director’s door thankfully grandfather Beau’s room was on the same floor as the office.

“Come in.” The director said from behind the doors.

“Sir–” His words got stuck in his mouth the moment he stepped into the office and he saw the person sitting in the room. His eyes grew slightly wide as he stared at her in stupefaction.

“Emily?” He called out in surprise.

“Dr Lair?” The lady called out in equal surprise. She abrupy stood up from her seat and approached Lair who was still looking at her in bewilderment. He couldn’t believe he was seeing her again. The last time he saw her was at Blake’s birthday party and he had hurriedly left without taking her number, that was something he had regretted at the time. She was one intelligible woman who had great insights on nutraceuticals. Till date that was one of the best conversation he had shared with a female counterparts, and to think they had talked for only a short time.

She gave him a once over and her eyes widened when she saw his lab coat and the hospital logo crest on it.

“You work here now?” She inquired, her eyes filled with surprise, while Lair bobbed his head up and down in response, “Yes I do.”

“Wow that’s good. Woah, It’s been a long time, how many months has it been now?” Emily asked with charming smile.

“Five?” Lair replied as he tried to remember when the day he had gone on Blake’s party.

“Wow it’s been so long.” She smiled, revealing her beautiful dentition.

“You guys know each other?” The director asked, cutting into the somewhat reunion.

“Yeah.” They replied simultaneously.

Lair quickly reprimanded himself when he remembered what had brought him there in the first place.

“Erm, Emily I’d really love to talk with you and share some knowledge but there’s an emergency and I need the director for it.” He said flashing an apologectic smile at her before glancing at the director who cocked an inquisitive brow at him.

“Oh no problem.” Emily understood. It was common in their line of work for them to always be caught up in an emergency. Lair shot her an appreciative smile before returning his gaze fully to the director.

“What’s the problem?” The man asked.

“Sir it’s the old man Beau.” Lair had only finished his sentence when the man hopped to his feet and said, “Let’s go.”

As the major benefactor of the hospital, he couldn’t dally for even a second. He’d ask the necessary questions on their way to the room. He was aware of the old man’s health condition, but he had no clue on what was happening today.

“What’s the problem?” The director inquired as they hurried back to grandfather’s room which was only a few doors away.

“Take a look at this.” Lair said handing over the test results to the director who took a proper look at it and his eyes widened.

“Emetine?” He asked in shock while Lair nodded. “Yes sir, it appears the old man’s has been given ipecac for a while now.’

“And it wasn’t detected?” His tone was now showing traits of anger.

“Sir i believe it has been detected but someone from the hospital has withheld this information.” That alone made the man’s face livid. With furrowed brow’s he glanced at Lair and asked, “Who?”

“Sir you have to see for yourself.” Lair replied and flung the door open, and he wasn’t surprised to find the culprit standing over the old man as he injected something into the infusion which Lair had hanged up.

The syringe and injection bottles in his hands fell to the floor when he heard the door open, he looked towards the door and he was shocked to see the director standing behind with a curious and suspicious look on his face.

“What are you doing?” The director asked inquisitively. He had seen what he was about to do but he didn’t want to believe what Lair had mentioned was true.

“Si…ir I’m admini…stering a new drug.” He stuttered as he tried to step on the syringe and injections, but he was too late as the director had seen him.

“Don’t you dare!” The man growled making Dr David’s feet to hang midair. The director took slow steps towards him and picked one of the unbroken injection amples from the floor. He examined the ample and his eyes widened in shock. He looked at Dr David who now had cold sweat breaking on his forehead.

“So it’s true?” The director asked while Dr David shook his head.

“No…no sir.” He tried to explain but the director could only look at him with disgust.

He turned towards Lair, and said, “Dr Lair please call the police.”

“Yes sir.” He replied.

Dr David hastily fell to his knees when he heard the medical director’s “Sir…..please.” He begged as he held the man’s lab coat who kicked his hand off and took a few steps backwards.

“Dr David you’re a disgrace to the profession. And I hope you get the punishment you deserve.” He said before turning towards Lair, “Please call the cops and inform the Beau’s–”

The director was still speaking when someone stepped into the room dressed in all black, “There’ll be no need for that.. I’ll be taking him.”

When Jake heard what had happened to his brother he felt like his life was over, like he had suddenly ran out of breath. That was his brother and he had failed to protect him. He had failed to protect someone he loved again.

The shadow guard had illustrated what had happened, how the car had driven over the bridge at the highway and had exploded. And they didn’t think Blake had made it. They were currently at the scene trying to find some answers or precisely his body.

Jake felt the blood in his body flow backwards. The earth was spinning and if he didn’t stand well he might fall to the ground.

He had spoken to Blake before leaving the office few minutes ago right? How then was this possible? How could something like this had happened to him again?

Jake could feel his body shaking while he struggled to keep his feet to the ground. His hands were fidgeting despite being clenched into a fist. He slowly lifted his eyes to Hillary who was laughing eerily, mocking him to his face.

“What have you done?” He asked in a faint voice. He still couldn’t believe what he had heard.

Hillary managed to stifle her laughter before replying him, “Paying you back for your foolishness.”

Paying him back? What did he do that she was paying back for? She was the one who owed him, owed his family, and even if he took her miserable life for payment it still wouldn’t be alone for her sins.

“You’re paying me back, by killing my brother? By killing my family?” Jake asked in a cold and thunderous voice, his hands kept fidgeting out of rage and his eyes looked like they were dead, but there’s were flashes of anger searing through them.

Hillary noticed the change in his demeanor and for a moment she flinched before recomposing herself.

“He’s just the beginning. Next it will be that grandfather.” She declared in a menancing tone.

“No, next will be you.” Jake retorted in a calm and dangerous tone, accompanying his words was a loud gunshot which surprised everyone most especially Hillary. She was stunned when she heard it but what confused her the most was who he had shot at. It wasn’t her right?

She looked at him and her eyes widened when she saw that the gun was pointed at her, smoke coming out of it mouth.

With wavering feets and widened eyes, she looked down at her stomach and she was surprised to see blood dripping from her body. And the moment she saw it she felt the surge of pain. Her feet felt wobbly as she slowly reached for her stomach, she had just been shot on the right flank of her stomach.

“Yo…you shot me?” She slowly looked at Jake and asked in disbelief. But before she could get an answer, the very next second she felt a tight grip over her neck, squeezing life out of her. Hillary tried to hold his hand on her neck but she couldn’t.

She looked at his deadpan eyes and for the first time in her life she felt fear. The man before her looked murderous.

Jake stared deep in her eyes, his eyes were cold, filled with anger and hatred, there was a murderous intent lingering in it.

“I hope you don’t feel pain, because I’ve just got started. If anything happens to my brother, I’ll dismember you to death. I swear on my life.” He growled before letting go of his hold on her neck and making her fall to the ground.

He turned towards Marcus who was looking at him with stupified eyes, “Call a doctor, make sure she doesn’t die till I get back.” Jake ordered before stepping out of the room leaving Hillary who was lying on the floor, bleeding. He was convinced she wouldn’t die since he had only shot her by the side. That should keep her on her toes till he got back. But peradventure something happened to Blake, she’d wish she had never been born.

Blake couldn’t die on him. He’s not permitted to die on his watch or even before him. It was impossible. As his elder one he should die first and he wasn’t dying now till he had a beautiful life with Jade.

With those thoughts in mind Jake raced down the stairs while dialling the number of the shadow guard again. He was going to kill those fools as well. He swore in his heart.

Jake had only opened the door of the sitting room to step out when he saw someone stepping out of the car parked in front of the Porche.

“Uncle Adrian?” Jake called in disbelief.

“Nephew.” The man replied as he opened the back seat of his car. Jake’s eyes widened in shock when he saw his brother lying on the back seat.

“Blake!” He called out as he rushed to the car. He took a look at him but he didn’t respond. He panicked and looked at his uncle.

“Why is–”

“He’s fine, his only unconscious.” Adrian told him. Jake looked back at Blake and sighed out in relief. He brushed the hair covering his face backward, he kissed the top of his head. He couldn’t explain how he felt right now, but he was more than relieved. He couldn’t imagine something happening to Blake. But thank God he was fine.

He stood up and glanced at his uncle. “How-“

“Don’t ask how, I’m not giving that bitch a chance to take one more family member from me.” Adrian said before walking towards the back of his car where banging noises was emanating from, Jake curiously following behind. His eyes widened when Adrain opened the trunk of the car and he saw the person lying there with his mouth and feet taped, while his hands were handcuffed.

“Dr David” Jake was surprised to see him there, but then it finally dawned on him that Dr David was the traitor he was looking for.

“You piece of Shit!” Jake was about to deal him a blow when his uncle caught his hand making Jake look at him.

“Don’t bother wasting your energy on him. He’s dead meat..” Adrian told him.
